12 attorneys general push back against vaccine misinformation spreading online
DETROIT โ A total of 12 Attorneys General penned a letter calling on social media to remove anti-vaccine content. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is among them and was on CNN recently voicing concern about the misinformation posted about vaccines online. The call to end misinformation comes as an alarming number of Michiganders say they will not be getting the vaccine. โA decade ago, the journey to the COVID vaccine began building upon research on other coronaviruses,โ read an ad aimed at encouraging people to get the vaccine. The state has started new campaigns to help educate those with doubts or concerns about the vaccine.

U-M Mott Childrenโs poll: Nearly 50% of parents say pandemic negatively impacted their teensโ mental health
Mental health experts say that isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic exacerbates depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts for at-risk teens. He said that the pandemic created new mental health issues for some, but for others exacerbated existing issues. According to the poll, parents said changes in social interactions over the past year seemed to hit their children the hardest. Giving them space for some quiet time, creative time or music time can be helpful to their mental health. Almost one in four parents in the Mott Poll say their teens were experiencing negative changes in their sleep since the pandemic started.
Michigan hospital investigates organ photos posted on social media
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. โ Spectrum Health launched an investigation into photos posted on Instagram from inside an operating room. It appears the photos were posted by a group of residents training at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. Spectrum Health released the following statement to WOODTV:The privacy of patients and the confidentiality of their medical information is a priority at Spectrum Health. We were disappointed to learn that surgical images were posted on an Instagram account used by a group of residents and are taking steps to resolve this issue. The Instagram account has been closed and a full investigation is underway.

(they) can access all kinds of information just by having that information,โ Blankenship said. They can search your name, they can find out more identifying information about you and that can compromise your personal information,โ Blankenship said. Officials also say there is a fear that posting these images can give an advantage to scammers who are making counterfeit vaccine cards. They can then input other peopleโs personal information; they can put anyoneโs name into that card, and it has the date on there,โ Blankenship said.

GAYLORD, Mich. โ A man threatened to blow up the Monroe County Sheriffโs Office unless someone was sent to arrest him, police said. Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriffโs Office learned Saturday about a social media post in which Philip H. Stone, 37, of Gaylor, threatened to blow up their building if the department didnโt send someone to arrest him by Jan. 13, according to authorities. Stone also threatened to kill anyone who tried to arrest him for any reason and that his statement should be taken as a terrorist threat, officials said. He has ties to the Monroe County area and was upset about a pending Friend of the Court hearing, authorities said. Stone was formally arraigned Monday (Jan. 4) in Otsego County on one charge of making terrorist threats.
