This fun outdoor activity is social distancing friendly

‘Governor just shut us down’: Canterbury Village postpones drive-in movie nights scheduled during COVID-19 pandemic

LAKE ORION, Mich. – Canterbury Village is postponing drive-in movies that were scheduled this week and next week. The postponement announcement was posted to the Canterbury Village Facebook page with the message that the “governor just shut us down.”According to the post, the governor halted the event. Keith Aldridge, who owns Canterbury Village, said there were plans in place to make the drive-in safe and socially distanced. You could listen to the movie on your FM radio and we decided against trying to do concessions," he said. When Canterbury Village posted to its Facebook page the governor shut the drive-in down, it became a keyboard war in the comments between those disappointed, those furious and others who support Michigan Gov.

New Lakeside Mall owner unveils plans, including synthetic ice skating rink

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The ownership group that purchased Lakeside Mall last year has big plans for the Sterling Heights shopping center. A synthetic ice skating rink, art installations, food trucks and a pop-up shop market are all planned for the mall, which is one of the largest in the state. The ice skating rink and pop-up market are expected by spring. It’s a new change of pace for the building at Hall and Schoenherr roads. “Partridge Creek is freezing in the winter.”One shop owner, Tony Ansara, hopes the new developments will increase foot traffic to his jewelry store he has owned for 29 years.

Michigan Free Fishing Weekend: Enjoy 3 days of fishing without a license

DETROIT – Enjoy three days of fishing this weekend even if you don’t have a fishing license. Michigan hosts two Free Fishing Weekends each year. This winter’s includes Saturday, Sunday and Monday because the Department of Natural Resources is moving to a new system, so fishing licenses can’t be purchased during that time. Additionally, Recreation Passports are not needed to enter state parks during the weekend and Monday. Normally, a yearly fishing license is required to catch fish in Michigan waters.
