Detroit police SUV hit by suspected drunk driver at crash scene
DETROIT – A Detroit police SUV was hit by a suspected drunk driver overnight in the area of Cadieux Road and Marne Street on the city’s east side. Officers were on the scene of a crash when a second car hit the police SUV. The officers were inside the SUV, though they were not injured. The suspected drunk driver was taken into custody.

Livestock hauler with 38 cows overturns in Detroit leaving some animals to be euthanized
DETROIT – A semi truck carrying 38 cows lost control and overturned on the Westbound I-94 ramp to Southbound I-75 in Detroit around 3 p.m. Monday, police say. As a result of the incident the Westbound I-94 ramp to Southbound I-75 will be closed for several hours. Police were still waiting for another livestock trailer to arrive on scene from Albion as of 6 p.m. Monday. Once the additional trailer arrives officials will begin to transfer over the livestock. Some of the cows will need to be euthanized because of their injuries, police say.

Port Huron CBP officers brave severe weather to aid driver in vehicle fire
PORT HURON, Mich. – Two US Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers risked their own safety despite severe winter weather to help a driver whose car was engulfed in flames on M-25 near Lakeport on Tuesday, Feb. 16. While searching the officer found the driver in a nearby vehicle provided by a good samaritan to help escape the cold. Both the driver and good samaritan noted it was difficult to call for emergency assistance because of the lack of cell phone service. “This is another shining example of our officers going to great lengths to provide assistance to those in need”, said Port Huron Area Port Director Michael Fox. “I’m proud of the valiant efforts CBP personnel provide to our community during times like this.”Read more: Headlines from across Michigan

Groceries delivery driver shot, carjacked in Royal Oak
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A man was shot in his leg when he was robbed while delivering groceries Tuesday night to a home on South Gainsborough Avenue in Royal Oak. Police said two men approached the delivery driver just after 9 p.m. in the 700 block of South Gainsborough Avenue. The victim’s vehicle was a gray 2007 Toyota Camry with Michigan license plate 5MP N71. Royal Oak police detectives are investigating the incident. PONTIAC, Mich. – Police are searching for a driver who they said hit a woman Monday night as she crossed North Perry Street in Pontiac. UPDATE: Man arrested while trying to hide vehicle used in Pontiac hit-and-runThe 29-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition. Michigan driver killed in milk tanker rollover in Indiana
– A semi-truck hauling milk on the Indiana Toll Road crashed and rolled in the median, killing the Michigan driver, police said. The driver was identified as Robert Downs, 61, of Colon, Michigan. Approximately 4,000 gallons of milk spilled from the tanker, along with 100 gallons of diesel fuel. “Extensive damage was sustained to both the tractor and trailer,” state police said. “Due to the damage sustained, it was initially undetermined if Downs was restrained at the time of the crash.

Alleged drunk driver collides with police SUV in Madison Heights
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – An alleged drunk driver in an SUV collided with a police vehicle in Madison Heights Tuesday night. The crash happened on the 12 Mile Road exit ramp from Interstate 75 northbound. Police said the driver who collided with the officer may have been drunk. The officer is OK, and the driver was taken to a hospital.

Tow truck driver rushed to hospital after single-car crash in Allen Park
ALLEN PARK, Mich. – The driver of a tow truck was rushed to the hospital early Saturday morning after colliding with the eastbound I-94 bridge in Allen Park, according to officials. Michigan State Police say at about 5:35 a.m. the driver lost control of the vehicle while driving southbound on Southfield Freeway. Officials say the driver was trapped in the vehicle and was removed by the fire department. He was then rushed to a hospital and listed in serious, but stable, condition. The westbound I-94 ramp to southbound Southfield Freeway was initially closed for repairs but has been reopened.

State police find vehicle wanted in fatal hit-and-run of I-94 construction worker
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A vehicle sought in connection with the deadly hit-and-run of a construction worker Monday along I-94 in St. Clair Shores has been found, Michigan State Police announced Wednesday morning. Zach Morisette, 26, was killed when a vehicle struck him about 3 p.m. Monday. He was working with a Macomb County Department of Roads crew putting down a patch to fix a broken manhole cover. Police had been searching for the vehicle and driver and while they have located the vehicle, the driver remains at large. 30-year-old Birmingham man killed at intersection of Maple Road and Coolidge Highway
BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – A driver called police and reported that she struck a pedestrian in Birmingham on Tuesday at 3:30 a.m., police said. She told police she drove through the intersection of Maple Road and Coolidge Highway on a green light when she struck a pedestrian. A 30-year-old man from Birmingham was killed, according to police. The South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT) was called to the scene to conduct an investigation. Davison man arrested after high speed chase in Chesterfield Township
CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. A Davison man was arrested after leading police on an 18-mile chase Tuesday morning in Chesterfield Township. Instead, police dashcam showed the 31-year-old driver fleeing at a high rate of speed, at times more than 100 mph. The chase continued for 13 minutes as the driver is seen traveling through Chesterfield and Clinton townships. It ended near 23 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue when the driver flees from the moving car. The suspect didnt get very far, tripping and falling on the lawn of a nearby Burger King before he was arrested.

Driver in custody after crashing into bus shelter, man in wheelchair in Detroit
DETROIT Police said a driver lost control of his vehicle at Dexter and Davison on Detroits west side and crashed into a bus shelter on Wednesday night. After crashing into the bus shelter, he struck a man in a wheelchair. The 54-year-old was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition. The driver was taken into custody. 2 women killed in hit-and-run southeastern Michigan crash
LONDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. State Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed two women pedestrians in southeastern Michigan. The crash occurred about 4 p.m. on Friday in London Township, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Ann Arbor. State Police posted on Twitter that the victims were a 29-year-old woman from Whitaker and a 25-year-old woman from Ypsilanti. Preliminary investigation shows a vehicle struck 2 pedestrians then fled the scene, troopers said. Anyone with information is asked to call Michigan State Police at 810-227-1051.

Prosecutors office denies charges against Amazon delivery driver arrested in Warren
MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. The Macomb County Prosecutors Office denied a warrant request in connection with an altercation between a Warren police officer, who is White, and an Amazon driver, who is Black. He was involved in a confrontation with an officer while he was delivering a package. Amondeuz Graham was on his way to get gardening supplies when he saw the Amazon driver getting into a confrontation with a Warren police officer. Macomb County Prosecutor will not authorize charges against Amazon driver arrested by Warren officer
MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. The Macomb County Prosecutors Office has denied charges in connection with an altercation between a Warren police officer, who is White, and an Amazon driver, who is Black. Cellphone video of the Amazon driver being violently arrested by police as he was making a delivery went viral on social media. The driver was charged with resisting and obstructing a police officer, failure to obey a lawful command and failure to produce a drivers license. We have an obligation not only to pursue appropriate criminal charges when necessary, but also employ discretion to not authorize criminal charges as certain circumstances demand, prosecutor Jean Cloud said. The prosecutors office was presented with the warrant requesting charges on Wednesday.

Speeding driver hits police car, crashes into Hamtramck building
HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – A speeding driver hit a Detroit police car before crashing into a Hamtramck building Monday. Police said the driver hit the officer’s car and continued onto a brick building near Caniff Street and Joseph Campau Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. The Detroit officer was passing through the city. The officer and driver were both taken to a hospital. The speeding driver is still being treated and is listed as stable.

Car slams into Detroit house after being hit by driver who ran stop sign
DETROIT – A driver who ran a stop sign sent another vehicle slamming into a house on Detroit’s west side Monday night. A Range Rover traveling north on Whitcomb ran the stop sign at Puritan Avenue and hit a Hyundai. The house’s gas meter was hit in the crash, but the residents of the home were not injured. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to a hospital. The driver of the Ranger Rover got out of their vehicle, got into another car and fled the scene.

Police: Woman jumps out of moving Lyft on I-96 in Detroit
DETROIT – A woman jumped out of a moving vehicle Saturday morning on I-96, police said. Police said the woman was picked up by a Lyft driver in Livonia. The driver was taking her to Porter Street in Detroit. The driver told police he was on eastbound I-96 near Joy Road in Detroit about 11 a.m. when the woman opened the passenger door and jumped out. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Detroit Department of Transportation bus drivers fear for safety after string of attacks
DETROIT – Bus drivers for the Detroit Department of Transportation fear for their safety after a string of recent attacks. One driver reported that she was taken out of the driver’s seat while the bus was in motion. Another bus driver reported being attacked by a man who had been accused of threatening drivers for two years. In another incident Detroit public school students allegedly assaulted a driver, and there’s another case where a driver was assaulted in Highland Park. This issue of drivers being assaulted came to light a few years ago when drivers refused to show up for work until they got more security.

Motorcyclist in hospital after being struck by driver who ran red light in Detroit, police say
DETROIT – A motorcyclist is in the hospital after being struck by a driver who ran a red light on Detroit’s west side, police said. A 39-year-old man was heading south on Hubbell Avenue at Grand River Avenue around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to authorities. The driver of a Chevrolet Traverse -- a 28-year-old man -- failed to stop at a red light and struck the motorcycle, officials said. The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, medical officials said. Police said they took the driver of the Traverse into custody.

Mustang driver killed in I-96 crash after losing control on icy overpass, crashing into guardrail, police say
BRIGHTON, Mich. – The driver of a Ford Mustang was killed Thursday in a crash on I-96 when he lost control of his car on an icy overpass and crashed into a guardrail and two other vehicles that had been involved in an earlier crash, state police said. Troopers were called around 6:30 a.m. Thursday to eastbound I-96 in Livingston County, according to authorities. Officials said the man lost control of his Mustang, went off the road, struck a guardrail and crashed into two vehicles that were already on the shoulder of the highway because of an earlier crash. Michigan State Police said drivers should remember to slow down when winter weather arrives. Anyone involved in a crash without injuries should find a safe spot to park before calling police, according to authorities.
