Parent group to rally for safe return to schools in Ann Arbor Saturday

ANN ARBOR – Ann Arbor Reasonable Return, a grassroots organization founded by local parents, will be holding a rally on Saturday in downtown Ann Arbor in support of Gov. The group, which also goes by A2R2, is made up of parents and medical professionals. The rally will begin at noon at the Ann Arbor Post Office at 200 E. Liberty St.“The community is urging Ann Arbor Public Schools to follow state guidance and finally offer the safe in-person option they advertised to the community at the start of the year,” read a press release. More than 500 parents have already petitioned the district, and the advocacy group presented a letter from more than 130 area doctors and pediatric nurses recommending a safe return to in-person learning.

Kerrytown District KindleFest canceled over pandemic concerns

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – This year’s KindleFest has been canceled due to coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns, according to a message on the Kerrytown District Association website. It is hosted by the Kerrytown District Association and brings artisans, vendors and hundreds of attendees to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market for a traditional German-inspired outdoor Christkindlmarkt. In addition to artisan and crafted goods, the evening KindleFest is known for traditional foods, mulled wine, music and a visit by Santa. As part of the event, downtown businesses in the area stay open late into the evening. “Our members encourage you to stay safe during this unprecedented time!," states the website.

Here’s how to use SNAP benefits at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market

Community members with an active EBT/Bridge card can purchase food through the Ann Arbor Farmers Market. According to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market website, those using SNAP dollars just need to swipe their food assistance card at the market office window. Previously, Double Up program tokens were limited to $20 but the Ann Arbor Farmers Market suspended that limitation so community members can stretch their food assistance benefits even further. The Westside Farmers' Market and Pittsfield Farmers Market also support food assistance programs including the Bridge Card and Double Up Bucks programs. The Ann Arbor Farmers Market is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at 315 Detroit St.Related:

Ann Arbor Farmers Market, Ann Arbor park facilities closed through April 5

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ann Arbor Farmers Market facility and city park recreational facilities will be closed through April 5. According to a news release made by the City of Ann Arbor the closure will start Saturday, March 14, and is being done to mitigate risks regarding COVD-19. A Facebook post on the Ann Arbor Farmers Market page confirms the closure. Park facility recreational events are canceled but the parks themselves are not closed. City Council and Planning Commission meetings will be held as planned but members of the public are encouraged to attend digitally through live-streamed meetings.
