Revenge isn’t motivator for Chelsea ahead of state semifinal showdown with River Rouge
It’d be easy for Chelsea to be fueled by a narrow loss to River Rouge in last year’s Division 3 state semifinal game, but that’s isn’t the case for the Bulldogs. While Chelsea lost 14-7 to the eventual state champions in a classic contest, getting revenge isn’t what fuels the Bulldogs heading into Saturday’s rematch. “That’s last year’s team,” said Chelsea coach Josh Lucas. “I can’t wait to play Rouge,” said Chelsea senior defensive back Logan Vaughn. “If you want to be the best, you’re going to have to beat the best and right now they’re the defending state champs,” Lucas said.mlive.com

Unexpected field goal lifts River Rouge to 33-30 win over Detroit King in D3 region finals
When River Rouge kicked its game-winning field goal to claim a Division 3 region championship on Saturday afternoon, it was as thrilling as it was unexpected. Locked in a back-and-forth matchup with Detroit Martin Luther King, River Rouge was able to march down the field and kick a 27-yard field goal with 10 seconds left for a 33-30 victory. “... He’s catching all kind of balls, just relentless.”Moving Martin to running back paid off in a big way in the final River Rouge possession as his 45-50 yard run put River Rouge in the red zone with under two minutes left. Hopefully never again.”Hrabowski finished with 113 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns in the winning effort to help River Rouge move on to the semifinals against Chelsea next week. I think once you get to the semifinals, the final four, everybody should have a fair shot and an equal playing field for where you’re playing at.”mlive.com

“We’re looking forward to a great game, but most importantly playing a game,” said River Rouge coach Corey Parker. For River Rouge, defensive back Armorion Smith had planned to enroll early at Cincinnati, but Parker said he is committed to playing with his teammates. On top of that, River Rouge senior quarterback Mareyohn Hrabowski (Western Michigan) is looking to help the Panthers win back-to-back titles behind an offensive line filled with size, experience and talent. “River Rouge poses a great challenge that they’re big and strong and just they’re a great program. Metro Detroit football predictions for region finals: Purcell brags about near-perfect week
Catholic Central junior quarterback Declan Byle has really blossomed into the leader of the offense while Mohamed Jaffer continues to make major impacts on both sides of the ball. Catholic Central is known as one of the hardest working programs in the state and its defense is giving up just 9 points per game. Without Sullivan, Catholic Central could keep this one close if it controls possession. A Catholic Central win would be and upset and I feel like taking who I think is the underdog for once.
