Apple & cider season is here and there are lots of events to celebrate
As the summer winds down, some fall activities are revving up! This weekend Campus Marius Park in Downtown Detroit transforms into a Bavarian Bierhaus for Parktoberfest. The event celebrates German culture and will feature food trucks, live music, a Biergarten pavilion with beers and games and kids activities. The Fest is happening Saturday September 10 and Sunday September 11.
Man killed in shootout after targeting Detroit officers at late-night crime scene, chief says
A man was shot and killed by Detroit police after he targeted officers as they investigated a scene where five people were shot, led police on a 100 mph chase and instigated multiple shootouts, according to the chief.
Campus Martius in Detroit named one of the best public squares in the country
DETROIT โ Detroitโs Campus Martius was recognized in USA Todayโs 10Best Top Public Squares for 2021. 5 out of 10 on the list, following behind the Santa Fe Plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. According to the website, a panel of experts partnered with 10Best editors to pick the initial nominees. The top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. Last month, the Detroit Riverfront was named the best riverwalk in America in USA Todayโs 10Best Readersโ Choice Travel Award Contest.
Families attend first night of drive-in theater in Downtown Detroit
DETROIT โ A new attraction in Downtown Detroit from Bedrock and Emagine is providing families entertainment during the coronavirus pandemic. Several families pulled up to the Monroe Street Drive-In Powered by Emagine on Friday in the Campus Martius area. Campus Martius Park ice skating rink to reopen Wednesday
DETROIT โ The outdoor ice skating rink at Campus Martius Park is reopening Wednesday, Dec. 9, according to Downtown Detroit Partnership. The rink was closed from Nov. 18 through Dec. 8 because of Michiganโs COVID-19 restrictions. The rink is open seven days a week and on holidays. Skaters are required to wear masks or face coverings as well as practice social distancing at all times. Capacity is also limited on the ice rink.

DETROIT โ The outdoor ice skating rink at Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit will close for at least three weeks due to new coronavirus restrictions ordered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations climb throughout the state, the MDHHS enacted a โthree-week pauseโ that ramps up restrictions for restaurants, bars, high schools, colleges and more. From Nov. 18 through Dec. 8, Michigan restaurants and bars cannot offer indoor dining services. Officials said an update to the order on Thursday extended restrictions to include both indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks. The Rink at Campus Martius Park is slated to reopen on Dec. 9, officials said Thursday.

Water main break leaves dozens without power in Downtown Detroit
DETROIT โ A combination of heat and old infrastructure caused a Downtown Detroit road to buckle and a water main to break Saturday night. The water flooded the basement of the David Stott Building on Griswold Street, near Campus Martius, leaving dozens without power. It happened on Independence Day at about 10:30 p.m. A water main burst along Griswold Street between Michigan Avenue and State Street, flooding the intersection. Bedrock released the following statement:The Stott building is currently experiencing a power outage resulting from a water main break late Saturday evening. We are currently evaluating the extent of the damage and have reached out to all building residents as we assess necessary repairs.

The Detroit Youth Choir received a huge surprise during their homecoming celebration on Friday. The fund, which will be established at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, will provide support to the Detroit Youth Choir in perpetuity. "The Detroit Youth Choir brought our entire region together to support Detroit's kids," said Wendy Lewis Jackson, Kresge Foundation, Detroit Program managing director. "Thanks to these generous funding partners, the Detroit Youth Choir and the rest of America can see just how Detroit shows its support for its young people."
