Ann Arbor Public Art Commission now accepting nominations for annual awards
ANN ARBOR – The Ann Arbor Public Art Commission has opened nominations for its newly-revived annual Golden Paintbrush Awards. This year’s award aims to recognize community members of all ages and organizations who promote creativity in the city’s publicly visible spaces. “Awards will be given for art which demonstrates collaboration and excellence and, as the commission explains, adds a bit of magic to our daily life,” the commission announced in a press release. Winners will be selected by a panel of residents and leaders in the arts, business and education communities in Ann Arbor. Musicians around the world perform to honor South Lyon musician lost to suicide
SOUTH LYON, Mich. – World-class saxophonist Eric Domanico would have turned 20 years old on Monday, but he unfortunately lost his battle with mental illness over the summer. Musicians across the globe are honoring the South Lyon teen while bringing awareness to depression among the youth. The childhood photos of Eric Domanico are like any other families’ -- birthday parties, playing outside, friends, family and just being a kid. To honor Eric’s memory, 40 saxophonists from around the world came together to perform with Eric in a virtual tribute. “I was with my sister-in-law when we played it,” said Claire Domanico, Eric’s mother.

Alice Schneider from Detroit Pet Portraits can turn your furry friend into a regal sea captain, an English game hunter, or even a Muppet in her colorful works of art. The local artist started her business two years ago when she made a painting for a friend, and has been commissioning personalized pet portraits ever since. Eventually, she was able to turn Detroit Pet Portraits into a full time job. She said that she works with owners to come up with a concept for each animal.
