Threat of strong to severe thunderstorms heading our way in Metro Detroit -- hereโs what to expect
The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire region under a marginal risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather on Wednesday. Damaging winds in excess of 60 mph will be the primary threat, although we canโt rule out some isolated large hail and heavy downpours as well.

For the third week in a row at least, we are looking at the potential of strong to severe thunderstorms moving into Southeastern Michigan and that includes another high-level risk issued from the Storm Prediction Center.
Storm Prediction Center expects marginal risks for severe weather Tuesday in Metro Detroit
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has put us at a marginal risk for severe weather, at the lowest threat level. As a cold front moves through in the late afternoon and evening hours, we could see a few thunderstorm cells produce 1โณ hail and winds over 60mph.

Happy Hump Day Metro Detroit!ย We are off to a mild start with temperatures in the 50s and on the rise with a warm front moving through south to north before sunrise and there have been a few showers along this warm front. Very widely scattered early morning showers are fading and we should get a little bit of dry weather to get us going on this Wednesday morning. Temperatures will keep rising and may even be into the lower 60s by the time you head out and about under mostly cloudy but mostly dry weather here. We do expect showers later, and a risk for a few severe storms late in the day so keep that umbrella with you today for the scattered showers on the way.

DETROIT Today will be our third consecutive day with a severe storm threat, and the Storm Prediction Center has us in the risk area both Thursday and Friday as well. Now, having a RISK of severe storms does not always translate into GETTING those storms. Warm and muggy Wednesday night, with oppressively warm lows in the low to mid 70s (22 to 23 degrees Celsius). Highs near 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius), and youll notice the drier air coming in during the afternoon! Becoming mostly clear Saturday night, with very comfortable lows in the mid 50s (13 to 14 degrees Celsius).

DETROIT - The threat for severe storms around Metro Detroit today has been upgraded. The Storm Prediction Center has most of Metro Detroit now in a Slight Risk for severe storms. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 11 p.m. for Genesee, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. A severe thunderstorm warning has expired for northwestern Wayne County, southwestern Oakland County, southeastern Livingston County and northeastern Washtenaw County. Your morning commute may be impacted by the potential of heavy rain, the stronger storm threat will be through the early afternoon.

Anyhoo, other than a bit of smoke, were wrapping up a beautiful summer day with temperatures near normal and low humidity. Storm chancesThe big question tomorrow is the storm chance. Were still technically in a Slight Risk for severe weather, as issued by the Storm Prediction Center. But the latest model data are showing that storms may have a tough time getting to severe limits in our corner of the state.
