Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash in Chesterfield Township
CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A Michigan man is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle while riding a motorcycle in Chesterfield Township. According to the Chesterfield Township Police Department, the crash occurred on Gratiot Avenue north of Carriage Way Drive at 6:28 a.m. on Monday. Police arrived on scene to find a damaged Chevrolet car and a heavily damaged Harley Davidson motorcycle blocking the southbound lanes of Gratiot Avenue. According to police, the Chevrolet driven by a 35-year-old Mount Clemens resident turned left in front of the motorcycle driven by a 49-year-old Chesterfield resident. The Chesterfield resident is in critical condition at a local hospital, police said.mlive.com

Michigan woman dies after driving 100 mph, flipping car that landed on top of another vehicle
ROSEVILLE, MI -- Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place Sunday night along Gratiot Avenue after a woman is believed to have been driving around 100 mph before crashing her car. According to Fox 2 Detroit, the victim is a 24-year-old Roseville woman whose vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, causing the Chrysler 300 she was driving to launch into the air and land on top of another vehicle. The car that was rear-ended was sent into the front of a local business, crashing through the window and doing significant damage. Police say no one in either of the two cars hit by the speeding vehicle was seriously injured. Police say the deceased woman was speeding along Gratiot around 11 p.m. before she crashed.mlive.com

2-year construction project on Gratiot Avenue begins Monday in Roseville
ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A 2-year project on Gratiot Avenue in Macomb County will begin Monday. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, more than three miles of Gratiot Avenue in Roseville will be rebuilt. Construction will focus on the stretch between 11 Mile and Common roads in 2021 and is expected to work between Common and 14 Mile roads in 2022. On the northbound side, the left lane will be closed from Frazho to Common roads and on the southbound side, the left lane will be closed from Common to 11 Mile roads. Detroit police: 19-year-old killed, 2 others wounded in shooting
DETROIT – Detroit police said a 19-year-old man has been killed and two other people were injured in a shooting. Police said the incident happened at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Gratiot Avenue and McNichols Road. Police said a man, unknown age, sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound and is hospitalized, and a 21-year-old man sustained a grazing wound. Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting. 2-vehicle collision kills pedestrian on Detroit’s east side
DETROIT – A 52-year-old pedestrian was killed Sunday when a collision caused one of the vehicles to strike him. Police said he was standing on the corner of Gratiot Avenue and Conner Street when two vehicles collided in the intersection at about 8:40 p.m. It is unknown which of the two vehicles struck the pedestrian on the corner. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. DETROIT – A shooting Saturday night on Detroit’s east side sent two teenagers to the hospital in serious condition. According to authorities, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old were in a parking lot near the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and Outer Drive when an unknown person began fighting and shots were fired. The two teens were both struck and taken to a hospital where they were listed in temporary serious condition. Detroit police: Man falls asleep driving, strikes police cruiser
DETROIT – A collision on Detroit’s east side sent two police officers to the hospital Saturday night. According to authorities, a man was driving northbound on Gratiot Avenue near Van Dyke when his vehicle struck a Detroit Police Department cruiser that was in the turn lane, before hitting the side of a building. Police said they believe the driver fell asleep while driving home from work. The two police officers that were in the cruiser checked on the driver before being taken to the hospital. MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Officials are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Macomb County. Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to Hall Road and Gratiot Avenue on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. for the report of a crash. Police said Reed Styers, 61, of Harrison Township was killed in the crash. DETROIT – A fire damaged a small apartment building on Detroit’s east side Saturday night. The fire broke out on Pelkey Street, near Gratiot Avenue and Schoenherr Street. According to authorities, all residents -- children, adults and a dog -- made it out safely. The cause of the fire is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

2 women shot, killed at Clinton Township apartment complex
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police said two women were shot and killed on Friday at a Clinton Township apartment complex. The suspected shooters were later arrested after leading officers on a chase. UPDATE: 2 charged after 2 young women fatally shot at Clinton Township apartment complexThe incident occurred at the Knottingham Apartments near Gratiot Avenue. Police chased the suspected shooters, who were in a Hellcat Dodge Charger, until the vehicle hit a utility pole. The county said they are in need of workers, specifically those qualified to do COVID testing, contact tracing and getting the vaccine to Macomb County residents.

DETROIT – A portion of I-94 will be closed in Detroit this weekend due to bridge work. Elliott Street overpass will close I-94 from Gratiot Avenue to I-75 in Detroit beginning Friday, Dec. 11. Entrance ramps to westbound I-94 between Conner Road and Chene Street will close at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11. Amid the closures, westbound I-94 traffic will be detoured to southbound Gratiot Avenue to westbound Gratiot Connector, then northbound I-75 back to westbound I-94. Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured to southbound I-75 to the eastbound Gratiot Connector, then eastbound Gratiot Avenue back to eastbound I-94.
Police: Man recorded women in Eastpointe bathroom weeks after same offense made in Roseville
EASTPOINTE, Mich. – Michael Robert Capizzo was taken into police custody Monday on suspicion of using his phone to record video of women in an Eastpointe Big Lots restroom. According to authorities, Capizzo, a 22-year-old registered sex offender, went into the women’s bathroom at the Big Lots located on 10 Mile Road, just west of Gratiot Avenue Monday, where he placed his cellphone under a bathroom stall wall to record an occupant inside. Police said he fled the scene, but officers were able to identify and arrest Capizzo without incident. Capizzo has been charged with using computers to commit a crime and capturing/distributing images of unclothed person. Police said Capizzo was arrested in Roseville for the same offense in November.

DETROIT – Detroit police are seeking the public’s help in locating 73-year-old Birdie Flowers, who was last seen at about 3:22 p.m., Thursday in the area of East Grand Boulevard and Gratiot Avenue. Police said Flowers’ caretaker drove him to the bank but he did not come back to the vehicle. Flowers is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall. His caretaker reported that he suffers from memory loss. DETROIT – Police said a 16-year-old was shot Saturday on Detroit’s east side. Investigators said the teen was walking down Carlisle Street near Gratiot Avenue and Hayes Street. ROSEVILLE, MI -- A pregnant woman was shot in the leg during a road rage dispute in Metro Detroit. An argument then broke out between the people in both cars on the roadway, Fox 2 in Detroit reported. The suspect then pointed a gun at the Jeep Liberty and fired two shots.
