DETROIT โ A 20-year-old man accused of reckless driving was charged Monday in the death of a 9-year-old Detroit boy who was struck while riding an all-terrain vehicle. Daveon Hardiman of Roseville was driving in the wrong direction and over the speed limit Saturday when he struck the ATV, authorities said. Hardiman was charged with reckless driving causing death, the Wayne County prosecutor's office said. The boy was identified as MaiโJuan Calderin. Gunman in violent murder of 28-year-old Warren resident arraigned
WARREN, Mich. โ On Friday, a 28-year-old Warren man died after being shot five times in the head and neck by a 27-year-old man, police say. The suspect was arrested in Detroit and taken into police custody on Saturday, according to Warren Police Commissioner, William Dwyer. Warren police say evidence collected showed the gunman shot the victim while he was on the ground in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Police say the gunman shot the victim three additional times in the head as he was on the ground unable to defend himself. The gunman was arraigned Tuesday at 2 p.m. on charges at the Warren 37th District Court.
Frank Kelley, Michigan attorney general for 37 years, dies
DETROIT โ Frank J. Kelley, affectionately called the โeternal generalโ for his 37 years as Michigan's longest-serving attorney general, has died at age 96, his family said Saturday. Kelley was state government's top lawyer at a time of sweeping change in politics and culture. He was credited with creating consumer and environmental protection divisions in the attorney general's office and was a defender of civil rights. Kelley, a Detroit native, was a lawyer in Alpena, a small town in northern Michigan, when Gov. John Swainson appointed him attorney general in 1961.
Washtenaw County deputies investigate death of 41-year-old man found in burning vehicle
SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office is investigating the death of 41-year-old Luis Rivera-Estrada in Superior Township. Deputies said that at about 8 a.m. on Feb. 19, authorities were dispatched to a vehicle on fire near Clark and LeForge roads. Rivera-Estrada was found dead inside after first responders were able to extinguish the fire. No further information was released at this time. STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. โ One person died and two were injured in a house fire that happened around 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Haff Drive in Sterling Heights. When officers and firefighters arrived to the home it was fully engulfed in flames. The fire is being investigated by both the cityโs police and fire departments. As of now the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Police: No suspicious death investigation at Clay Township mobile home park
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Contrary to previous reports, police in Saint Clair County were not investigating a suspicious death Sunday. Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit originally were told Sunday that a body was found in Channelview Mobile Home Park off Seaway Drive in Clay Township, just north of the Saint Clair River. Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit reported police were calling the death suspicious. However, on Monday police said this is not a suspicious death investigation and that they never did call it such. They said officers were at the park on Sunday to investigate a death, but nothing about it was suspicious.
Death of Grand Valley State student ruled accidental
ALLENDALE, Mich. โ The death of an 18-year-old Grand Valley State University student whose body was found last month on campus has been ruled accidental, caused by hypothermia. DeRosa, a first-year student from Royal Oak, was found dead by a runner Dec. 12 near sports fields on the Allendale campus. Police investigating death of Detroit man in West Virginia
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. โ A Michigan man was found dead inside a West Virginia home, police said. Huntington police said the investigation was being treated as a homicide. The body of David Thompson II, 23, of Detroit, was found Thursday at a Huntington home, police said. Police were called to the house shortly after 1:30 a.m., the city said in a news release. No further information was provided.

3rd person dies, 1 critical after northern Michigan shooting
ELBERTA, Mich. โ A third person has died and a fourth remains in critical condition following a shooting at a home in northern Michiganโs Benzie County, police said. Undersheriff Gregory Hubers said one of the four people shot Friday died at the Munson Medical Center, where the remaining shooting victim was in critical condition, WPBN/WGTU-TV reported. Hubers said Friday that a mother and her adult son had died in Friday's shooting, while the father and another son were rushed to a hospital. Hubers said investigators believe the motive for the shooting stemmed from problems within the household. The shooting occurred in Elberta, a village tucked between Lake Michigan and Betsie Lake.

Orion Township womanโs body left in bed for nearly a month
ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The body of an Orion Township woman was left in her bedroom for more than three weeks until authorities issued a welfare check Sunday. According to authorities, at about 11:30 a.m. Oakland County Sheriffโs deputies were dispatched to a home on Conklin Road for a welfare check after someone believed there was a dead body within the home. Deputies said Animal Control was called to the scene for the removal of two dogs that were preventing Deputies from entering the home. When deputies made entry into the home, they said they found a deceased woman in an upstairs bedroom and a deceased dog in the basement. Authorities said the daughter told the deputies she was overwhelmed and was not emotionally prepared to deal with the death.

Ohio man arraigned in connection with the murder of Egypt Covington
ROMULUS, Mich. โ At least one of the two people Michigan State Police have in custody in connection with the death of Egypt Covington was arraigned Sunday. According to authorities, Timothy Eugene Moore, a 34-year-old man from Toledo, was arraigned Sunday afternoon on one count of homicide at the 34th District Court in Romulus. Covington, 27, was shot and killed inside her Van Buren Township home on June 23, 2017. When her body was found, her hands were bound with Christmas lights and she had been shot in the head. Motive of gunman who killed his mother and sister in Dearborn Heights remains unknown
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. โ This morning detectives continued an investigation into a double homicide that happened Saturday and has shaken Dearborn Heights. Dearborn Heights police have identified the shooter as a 43-year-old Dearborn Heights man. Both of the victims are also Dearborn Heights residents. According to Dearborn Heights Police Department, he then shot at officers as they continued giving him orders to drop the weapon. In addition to the AR-style rifle, the gunman had another rifle in his bedroom along with about 30 loaded magazines.

Cliff Robinson guided UConn out from the bottom and almost helped take the Portland Trail Blazers to the top. Robinson helped the Blazers reach the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992. RIP Clifford Robinson - some of my earliest memories of NBA basketball were of you as the lifeblood to those early/mid 90s Blazers teams. As a player coming in, heres this guy playing on TV for the Trail Blazers, watching him play, watching UConn being mentioned. Police: 16-year-old dies after jumping off moving boat on Mandon Lake
WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A 16-year-old girl is dead after jumping off of a pontoon boat while it was still moving Monday on Mandon Lake in White Lake Township, police said. Police said the teen was on her friendโs boat when she jumped off the back while it was still moving. Family members have identified her as Nicole Shoup. Although police believe Shoup jumped off the boat, family members say there is no way she would have done that while the boat was moving. Wayne resident arraigned in shooting death of 19-year-old
DETROIT โ On Sunday, 19-year-old Wayne resident Robert Shoats was arraigned in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Kaleb Parish. Shoats was arraigned on charges of discharge in a building causing serious impairment and felony firearm. According to police, the shooting happened on Wednesday at around 6:02 p.m. in the 34000 block of Richard Street in Wayne. Parish died of his injuries from the shooting on Friday. These court hearings will be held at the 29th District Court in Wayne.
30-year-old father drowns in Belleville pond after being encouraged to take bet
BELLEVILLE, Mich. โ A 30-year-old father died trying to swim across a pond late Thursday night after being encouraged to take a bet. Police arrived just after 9 p.m., when 30-year-old Cedric Collins of Ypsilanti slipped under the water and didnโt come back up. Cedric Collins (WDIV)Witnesses said there was a $1,000 bet involved. Collins didnโt want to take the bet, but was goaded into it by the 15 or so people there. Collins jumped into the pond and didnโt make it halfway across before going under.
Michigan State Police trooper dies after being struck by suspected drunk driver
LANSING, Mich. A trooper who was struck by a drunk driver while on duty on July 10 has died, according to police. Caleb Starr joined the Michigan State Police in Sept. 2018, as a member of the 135th Trooper Recruit School. He is survived by his wife, Rachael, who is a civilian member of the MSP, and their two young daughters. Starr was westbound on Grand River Avenue when a vehicle traveling east, driven by a 28-year-old woman from Utah crossed the center line. Charges are pending against the driver from Utah, who is believed to still be hospitalized, according to police.

Her body was found at about 6:40 p.m. Sunday in a white SUV in the 1700 block of Wabash Street, near Michigan Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard. 13 nuns at Livonia convent die from COVID-19
LIVONIA, Mich. โ The Felician Sisters convent in Livonia has lost 13 nuns to COVID-19 since the pandemic hit the region in March. The Global Sisters Report says 12 of the nuns died between April 10 and May 10. Police investigating after man found dead in Grosse Pointe Woods home
GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. โ Police are investigating a death in Grosse Pointe Woods Saturday. According to authorities, police responded to a home in the 800 block of Lochmoor Boulevard, just west of Morningside Drive, on reports of an unconscious man. Police pronounced the man dead at the scene. The Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety have not revealed how he died or other details. The investigation is ongoing.
President of Vegas casino company dies in Michigan watercraft accident
The head of a casino company died Saturday in a watercraft accident while vacationing in Michigan, the company announced. Richard J. Haskins, president of Red Rock Resorts Inc. and Station Casinos LLC, which owns 20 casinos in Nevada, died, the company said in a statement. Haskins joined Red Rock in 1995 as general counsel of the company's Midwest operations. He had served as president of Red Rock Resorts and Station Casinos since October 2015Frank Fertitta III, the CEO and chairman of the board of directors, praised Haskins. Words cannot express what Rich has meant to the Company and to me in the 25 years he has been with Station Casinos.
14-year-old boy fatally shot at home on Mettetal Street in Detroit
DETROIT A 14-year-old boy was found fatally shot Wednesday morning at a home in the 12000 block of Metettal Street in Detroit. Detroit police said one person has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. A gun was recovered from the home.
