WARREN, Mich. – On Friday, a 28-year-old Warren man died after being shot five times in the head and neck by a 27-year-old man, police say. The suspect was arrested in Detroit and taken into police custody on Saturday, according to Warren Police Commissioner, William Dwyer. Warren police say evidence collected showed the gunman shot the victim while he was on the ground in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Police say the gunman shot the victim three additional times in the head as he was on the ground unable to defend himself. The gunman was arraigned Tuesday at 2 p.m. on charges at the Warren 37th District Court.

DETROIT – Frank J. Kelley, affectionately called the “eternal general” for his 37 years as Michigan's longest-serving attorney general, has died at age 96, his family said Saturday. Kelley was state government's top lawyer at a time of sweeping change in politics and culture. He was credited with creating consumer and environmental protection divisions in the attorney general's office and was a defender of civil rights. Kelley, a Detroit native, was a lawyer in Alpena, a small town in northern Michigan, when Gov. John Swainson appointed him attorney general in 1961.

SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of 41-year-old Luis Rivera-Estrada in Superior Township. Deputies said that at about 8 a.m. on Feb. 19, authorities were dispatched to a vehicle on fire near Clark and LeForge roads. DeRosa, a first-year student from Royal Oak, was found dead by a runner Dec. 12 near sports fields on the Allendale campus. HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A Michigan man was found dead inside a West Virginia home, police said. Huntington police said the investigation was being treated as a homicide. The body of David Thompson II, 23, of Detroit, was found Thursday at a Huntington home, police said. Police were called to the house shortly after 1:30 a.m., the city said in a news release. No further information was provided.

Kacie Van Buskirk was a swimming and academic all-American and left South Lyon East High School with half a dozen records. Kacie Van Buskirk married the love of her life in August. First, as a record-breaking, award-winning athlete for the South Lyon East Cougars and then as an assistant coach for her high school swim team. ELBERTA, Mich. – A third person has died and a fourth remains in critical condition following a shooting at a home in northern Michigan’s Benzie County, police said. Undersheriff Gregory Hubers said one of the four people shot Friday died at the Munson Medical Center, where the remaining shooting victim was in critical condition, WPBN/WGTU-TV reported. Hubers said Friday that a mother and her adult son had died in Friday's shooting, while the father and another son were rushed to a hospital. Hubers said investigators believe the motive for the shooting stemmed from problems within the household. The shooting occurred in Elberta, a village tucked between Lake Michigan and Betsie Lake.

ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The body of an Orion Township woman was left in her bedroom for more than three weeks until authorities issued a welfare check Sunday. According to authorities, at about 11:30 a.m. Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home on Conklin Road for a welfare check after someone believed there was a dead body within the home. Deputies said Animal Control was called to the scene for the removal of two dogs that were preventing Deputies from entering the home. When deputies made entry into the home, they said they found a deceased woman in an upstairs bedroom and a deceased dog in the basement. Authorities said the daughter told the deputies she was overwhelmed and was not emotionally prepared to deal with the death.

ROMULUS, Mich. – At least one of the two people Michigan State Police have in custody in connection with the death of Egypt Covington was arraigned Sunday. According to authorities, Timothy Eugene Moore, a 34-year-old man from Toledo, was arraigned Sunday afternoon on one count of homicide at the 34th District Court in Romulus. Covington, 27, was shot and killed inside her Van Buren Township home on June 23, 2017. When her body was found, her hands were bound with Christmas lights and she had been shot in the head. DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – This morning detectives continued an investigation into a double homicide that happened Saturday and has shaken Dearborn Heights. Dearborn Heights police have identified the shooter as a 43-year-old Dearborn Heights man. Both of the victims are also Dearborn Heights residents. According to Dearborn Heights Police Department, he then shot at officers as they continued giving him orders to drop the weapon. In addition to the AR-style rifle, the gunman had another rifle in his bedroom along with about 30 loaded magazines.

WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 16-year-old girl is dead after jumping off of a pontoon boat while it was still moving Monday on Mandon Lake in White Lake Township, police said. Police said the teen was on her friend’s boat when she jumped off the back while it was still moving. Family members have identified her as Nicole Shoup. Although police believe Shoup jumped off the boat, family members say there is no way she would have done that while the boat was moving. DETROIT – On Sunday, 19-year-old Wayne resident Robert Shoats was arraigned in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Kaleb Parish. Shoats was arraigned on charges of discharge in a building causing serious impairment and felony firearm. According to police, the shooting happened on Wednesday at around 6:02 p.m. in the 34000 block of Richard Street in Wayne. Parish died of his injuries from the shooting on Friday. These court hearings will be held at the 29th District Court in Wayne.

BELLEVILLE, Mich. – A 30-year-old father died trying to swim across a pond late Thursday night after being encouraged to take a bet. Police arrived just after 9 p.m., when 30-year-old Cedric Collins of Ypsilanti slipped under the water and didn’t come back up. Cedric Collins (WDIV)Witnesses said there was a $1,000 bet involved. Collins didn’t want to take the bet, but was goaded into it by the 15 or so people there. Collins jumped into the pond and didn’t make it halfway across before going under.

LANSING, Mich. A trooper who was struck by a drunk driver while on duty on July 10 has died, according to police. Caleb Starr joined the Michigan State Police in Sept. 2018, as a member of the 135th Trooper Recruit School. He is survived by his wife, Rachael, who is a civilian member of the MSP, and their two young daughters. Starr was westbound on Grand River Avenue when a vehicle traveling east, driven by a 28-year-old woman from Utah crossed the center line. Charges are pending against the driver from Utah, who is believed to still be hospitalized, according to police.
