Free ice cream helps Ypsilanti schools connect with families during summer vacation
YPSILANTI, MI -- Ypsilanti Boots on The Ground has been handing out free ice cream all summer, and there’s one more shot to get it before the summer is over. The last ice cream handout will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, at Huron Heights/ La Forge Area at Beatty Early Learning Center, 1661 LeForge Road. Motor City Sweet Treats provides the ice cream, which is free to students and $5 for parents. Ypsilanti Boots on the Ground, a subsidiary of Ypsilanti Community Schools, works to stay connected with students and families during the summer vacation from school, said Alexandria Cash, YCS marketing and communications coordinator. Canvasing the neighborhood for enrollment and getting feedback on events and ideas for the school year are all points of conversation while students and parents enjoy ice cream, Cash said.
