Are you planning your own “revenge travel” plans?
You may not be the only one dreaming up your next big vacation after COVID. Industry insiders say there will be a huge boom in spending for vacations, in a trend they call “revenge travel.” Tati called on friends of the show Lauren Crocker, Jason Hall, and AJ Williams to find out what their next big travel plans will be.
What’s your spring Cleaning routine?
It looks like the snow might be gone for good, which means it’s time to start thinking about spring cleaning. Often the biggest question about spring cleaning is where to start. For Crocker, cleaning out the closet is the best place to start, since clearing out space means she’ll get to revamp her wardrobe for the season. Cleaning out space in the spring also means making room for new tech. Hall said that for him the change in season means a new bike and new stuff for the car.
Celebrate International Women’s Day with women who inspire
First, Mimi talked about her inspiration, Maya Angelou. “I always think about her when I think about powerful women in history.”Next, everyone talked about their favorite women in film. Jason and Mimi both talked about Cicely Tyson, who stayed true to herself by only taking roles in films that highlighted African American women. AdFinally, Tati asked about the women in the music industry that inspire everyone. Mimi picked Aretha Franklin, an icon who’s music transcends audiences, and who has performed at multiple presidential inaugurations.
What are your big game plans?
There’s no denying this year is going to be a different big game experience than ever before. Everyone has big opinions on the best food to serve at game day parties. Every year the big game reignites the same old argument- should boneless wings be considered wings? This year of course there are concerns about game day parties being a super-spreader event, so will you be inviting anyone over? New year, new hobby?
So why not try a new hobby? First off, do you have a hobby? For Greg Russell, his hobby is collecting autographs and, as someone who interviews celebrities for a living, he has collected many over the years. Jason Hall’s obvious hobby is the e-bike, but what you might not know is that he collects sneakers. Is there a hobby that you had, but later gave up?
Does fast food get a bad rap?
Grab a burger and some French fries, What’s the Buzz is all about fast food because it is National Fast Food Day! First up, does fast food get a bad rap? Both Blaine and Melanie like fast food for the unhealthy guilty pleasure that it is. Are there too many fast food options? Now many chains are offer meat substitutes so vegetarians and vegans can enjoy some fast food as well.
Are people going to be trick or treating this year?
With the number of COVID cases on the rise, many people are trying to figure out how they want to celebrate Halloween this year. So the first topic: How are you going to celebrate this year? Lauren said she is going to do socially-distant trick-or-treating with the help of a candy chute. Her husband Michael is building the chute so they can safely send candy down to the kiddos. Jason’s recommendation is to turn off all the lights and stay away from the windows so people know you’re not participating.

That time of year has officially come: Tomorrow is the first day of fall! We have all been feeling it for a while, with the cooler weather we have been experiencing as of late, including our friends of the show. Comedian Melanie Hearn, Jason Hall of RiDetroit, and Lauren Crocker of The Blaine Fowler Morning Show on 96.3 WDVD, joined Jason Carr to break down the upcoming season and take their stance on the ultimate fall debates: Should the season be called fall or autumn? Are you hitting the holiday road this Labor Day weekend?
Labor Day weekend is upon us, the unofficial end of summer. Its also the last weekend for a getaway for many families. That was the topic for this weeks Whats The Buzz! Host Jason Carr was joined by local comedian Melanie Hearn, Blaine Fowler, the host of The Blaine Fowler Morning Show on 96.3 WDVD, and Jason Hall with RiDetroit and a new podcast called City Talks. Should you post pictures to social media if you go on a vacation because some people are shaming others for traveling during the pandemic?
Would you still be friends if they did this....
Today on Whats the Buzz? were asking our friends, about their friends and the relationships with those who are closest to you. First topic: Are you closer to your friends than your extended family? Both Marlin and Jason said they were closer to their friends than their extended families, and thats largely because they spend more time with their friends. Next topic: When do your friends become your family? Blaine gave a host of reasons why friends can become family, including being able to pick things up where they left off for long distanced friends, and going through life trials and tribulations together.
Have you done these 3 common quarantine things?
So we wanted to see if they were doing these common quarantine activities. Did you have a quarantine project? Do you have quarantine project pride or envy? AJ Williams has gotten really into plant care and says she is referred to as the plant lady now. Jason Hall says hes very proud of all his projects and has started getting more into social media.
Touring all of Detroit on two wheels
Thats what friend to Live In The D, Jason Hall, has been doing. He told Tati Amare and Jason Carr how he has been spending his time cycling around Detroit and parts of Metro Detroit using an e-bike. For Jason Hall, biking around Detroit has been a good way to see some interesting parts of the city. He has found new trails and has been able to travel to parts of Metro Detroit like Southfield. If you are interested in e-biking around Detroit, Hall can help!
How do you keep your New Year’s resolution?
This Friday is National Ditch Your Resolution Day, but we are going to help you get through it and stay on track this year! What’s the Buzz today is all about sticking to your goals for 2020. How do you respond to someone who tries to get you off your resolution by saying “it’s no big deal"? What if your significant other makes a resolution that impacts both your lives? Joining Tati and Jason today on the couch to talk about it are Lauren Crocker, with “The Blaine Fowler Morning Show” on 96.3 WDVD, and Jason Hall with RiDetroit.
What's The Buzz: Do you know how to do these life skills?
This week for "What's the Buzz," we're talking all about life skills. All panel members had paddles that when asked if they knew how to do a certain life skill, they answered either "I go this," or "I need help". Mary Liz Curtin impressively knew how to do all the life skills, including balancing finances and sewing a button. Kila Peeples joined the couch to go over some of the answers that were posted on our Facebook page. "What's the Buzz" airs every Monday on Live in the D. What's the Buzz today is all about FOMO (fear of missing out) and JOMO (joy of missing out). Lauren and AJ both said they had JOMO while Jason said FOMO. The answers were reversed this time for the panelists with AJ and Lauren saying they had FOMO and Jason saying he has JOMO. Finally: Do you have a fear of missing out on summer fun? The panelists were unanimous saying they for sure had FOMO for summer fun.
Get ready for summer in Michigan!
Memorial Day is just around the corner, and for most of us that means summer fun! Our 'What's the Buzz' panel joined us in studio to talk about their Memorial Day plans, Tasha Lord a singer and musician, Marlin Page a Technology Strategist and Founder of Sister Code and Jason Hall the Co-Founder of Slow Roll Detroit. We asked the panel what their favorite place to visit in Michigan and some of the places that were mentioned were Grand Rapids because of its culture and art, the Upper Peninsula off of Lake Michigan because of its beautiful sights, and lastly right here in Detroit, because Detroit is thriving with so many new bars, restaurants and unique places to explore.
