ROCKFORD, MI -- Rockford will be awarded a $4.5 million grant to connect some Algoma Township residents with contaminated drinking wells to municipal water. Residents slated to receive a Rockford municipal water connection will be informed by mail and can then call the administrations in Rockford or Algoma for more information. Rockford’s municipal water system has about 7,200 and is tested regularly for contaminants. Some drinking water wells in northern Kent County are contaminated by toxic per- and polyfluorinated compounds called PFAS. SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 27-year-old Southfield man died overnight after his girlfriend called police to report she had stabbed him during a dispute at an apartment complex, officials said. The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday (March 15) at the Lancaster Hills apartment complex on Lancaster Drive near Telegraph and 12 Mile roads, according to authorities. Police said they received a call from a 22-year-old Southfield woman who said she was involved in a domestic altercation and had stabbed her boyfriend. Authorities arrived, rendered aid and took the man to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival, officials said. The case is being investigated as a domestic homicide, per Southfield officials.

Gyasi Arnez Stribling, the victim’s 20-year-old brother, is now facing charges. He’s accused of shooting Bailei Singleton at the 12 North Apartments on 12 Mile Road, between Northwestern Highway and Telegraph Road. The girl had been in critical condition at a hospital after being shot in her head. Police said he allegedly fabricated a story and said Bailei had been shot during an attempted robbery.

Driver wanted for hitting police officer in Madison Heights
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – A search is underway for a driver who took off after hitting a Madison Heights officer and leading police on a chase down Interstate 75. At about 6 p.m. Monday, the Madison Heights Police Department was called to the Midas parking lot on 12 Mile Road west of John R Road to check on a man inside his car slumped over the wheel. The chase ended near 7 Mile Road with no sign of the man’s vehicle. Police identified the man as 31-year-old Justin John Crawford. Anyone with information is asked to call Madison Heights police.

The crash happened on the 12 Mile Road exit ramp from Interstate 75 northbound. Police said the driver who collided with the officer may have been drunk. The officer is OK, and the driver was taken to a hospital.
