This pandemic has been a hardship for many, including local charities that have a mission to help those in need and provide hope. There’s one charity that’s picking up “Truckloads of Hope,” and helping those in the community. All 38 Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers are collecting donations of toiletries, socks, underwear, sheets, blankets, and hand sanitizer for their “Truckloads of Hope” event. Capuchin Soup Kitchen collects these types of donations for their Shower Programs, which assist those who have inadequate shelter. The Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers’ “Truckloads of Hope” will be collecting donations until March 31.

Lyon Township family who lost home in plane crash receives overwhelming support from community
LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Lyon Township family who had its home destroyed in a plane crash Saturday has received almost $28,000 in donations through an online fundraiser. On Saturday, a plane carrying a family of three crashed into the Mudwzova family home. Former president of the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan and president of Compo Home Builders, David Compo, his wife Michele and their son Dawson died in the Lyon Township plane crash. “David Compo was a respected husband, father, brother, colleague and friend to many. David Compo was an Adult Leader and attained the rank of Life Scout.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – There’s a mother in Clinton Township who works hard this time of year to make sure every family in need that she knows of gets presents for the children. Local 4 has told her story before, but a lot has changed since then. She spends the holiday season buying and wrapping toys for children in Metro Detroit. When Local 4 first covered her story, her entire home was filled with enough presents for about 100 children. Now, two years later, she has so many donations that she needs three storage units and is able to give toys to many more children.

While the relief fund is organized for Ann Arbor’s large and small businesses, community individuals can also donate. Salvation Army sets up giant red kettle in Downtown Detroit
The city’s Christmas tree is up and so is the giant red kettle. Lt. Col. John Turner is the Salvation Army Divisional Commander for the Eastern Michigan Division. The red kettle is 56 feet tall and 24 feet wide. That’s a big bang for your buck if you’re giving to Salvation Army,” Turner said. The Salvation Army hopes to raise $8 million this year for their #RescueChristmas campaign.

BERKLEY, Mich. – A 15-year-old dachshund named Jake Truett who was born in Michigan is using his ability to sniff out cash to raise money for Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit. His family is donating Jake’s money, a $250.08 in total, to Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit. The gift is the first of the Jake Project. The Jake Project hopes to get at least 100 matching donations of $250.08. The Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit is working to raise the final $3.5 million to complete construction of its new intake facility.
Ann Arbor’s Food Gatherers addresses record-breaking food insecurity during pandemic
ANN ARBOR – Each month, local anti-hunger organization Food Gatherers continues to break records as it works to serve community members experiencing food insecurity brought on by economic hardship during the COVID-19 health crisis. Nearly half of these visitors had never sought emergency food before, and in August, one parent who attended Food Gatherers' Summer Food Service Program said it acted as a lifeline for her family. Without its thousands of volunteers, Food Gatherers had to drastically change the way it serves the community this summer. In response, Food Gatherers increased its monthly food distribution by nearly 30%, and broke its own record in June of the largest annual total pounds of food distributed. 31 Cuddle Bear toys, books donated to MSP Gaylord Post to help children who are victims of crimes
OTSEGO COUNTY, Mich. – Michigan State Police’s Gaylord Post received 31 Cuddle Bear toys to take on patrol to help comfort children who are victims or witnesses of crimes, MSP announced Tuesday. Brown’s husband, William Brown, is a trooper at the Gaylord Post. “I knew the minute I saw this fundraising opportunity that I wanted to raise money for this program,” Brown said. “These Cuddle Bears and our ‘Handle With Care’ program will work very well together," said MSP trooper Corey Hebner, who is also the community service trooper at the Gaylord Post.
