Thereโs one charity thatโs picking up โTruckloads of Hope,โ and helping those in the community. All 38 Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers are collecting donations of toiletries, socks, underwear, sheets, blankets, and hand sanitizer for their โTruckloads of Hopeโ event. Capuchin Soup Kitchen collects these types of donations for their Shower Programs, which assist those who have inadequate shelter. The Metro Detroit Chevy Dealersโ โTruckloads of Hopeโ will be collecting donations until March 31.

Lyon Township family who lost home in plane crash receives overwhelming support from community
LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The Lyon Township family who had its home destroyed in a plane crash Saturday has received almost $28,000 in donations through an online fundraiser. On Saturday, a plane carrying a family of three crashed into the Mudwzova family home. Former president of the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan and president of Compo Home Builders, David Compo, his wife Michele and their son Dawson died in the Lyon Township plane crash. โDavid Compo was a respected husband, father, brother, colleague and friend to many. David Compo was an Adult Leader and attained the rank of Life Scout.
Clinton Township mother expands effort to give gifts to children in need during holiday season
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Thereโs a mother in Clinton Township who works hard this time of year to make sure every family in need that she knows of gets presents for the children. Local 4 has told her story before, but a lot has changed since then. She spends the holiday season buying and wrapping toys for children in Metro Detroit. When Local 4 first covered her story, her entire home was filled with enough presents for about 100 children. Now, two years later, she has so many donations that she needs three storage units and is able to give toys to many more children.

Salvation Army sets up giant red kettle in Downtown Detroit
The cityโs Christmas tree is up and so is the giant red kettle. Lt. Col. John Turner is the Salvation Army Divisional Commander for the Eastern Michigan Division. The red kettle is 56 feet tall and 24 feet wide. Thatโs a big bang for your buck if youโre giving to Salvation Army,โ Turner said. The Salvation Army hopes to raise $8 million this year for their #RescueChristmas campaign.

BERKLEY, Mich. โ A 15-year-old dachshund named Jake Truett who was born in Michigan is using his ability to sniff out cash to raise money for Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit. His family is donating Jakeโs money, a $250.08 in total, to Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit. The gift is the first of the Jake Project. The Jake Project hopes to get at least 100 matching donations of $250.08. The Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit is working to raise the final $3.5 million to complete construction of its new intake facility.
Ann Arborโs Food Gatherers addresses record-breaking food insecurity during pandemic
ANN ARBOR โ Each month, local anti-hunger organization Food Gatherers continues to break records as it works to serve community members experiencing food insecurity brought on by economic hardship during the COVID-19 health crisis. Nearly half of these visitors had never sought emergency food before, and in August, one parent who attended Food Gatherers' Summer Food Service Program said it acted as a lifeline for her family. Without its thousands of volunteers, Food Gatherers had to drastically change the way it serves the community this summer. In response, Food Gatherers increased its monthly food distribution by nearly 30%, and broke its own record in June of the largest annual total pounds of food distributed. Weve had over 10,000 individuals donate convalescent plasma which has allowed us to distribute over 20,000 convalescent plasma units nationwide, said Red Cross spokesman Todd Kulman. "We are asking those individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 to schedule an appointment to donate convalescent plasma," said Kulman. "Some information is suggesting that convalescent plasma could help some coronavirus patients especially those who are seriously ill. WISD, Toyota launch Safe Schools Washtenaw drive to support safety of students, schools

The program, Mask with a Message, will provide 5 to 18 year olds free supplies while they last on a first-come-first-serve basis. DETROIT It started with a simple idea, but now its turned into a juggernaut. Bill Birndorf is helping serve up thousands of free meals for those who need it the most. In 2014, Birndorf volunteered to work at the Say Detroit Radiothon, along with Detroit Rescue Mission. Birndorf had always been charitable with donations but not as charitable with his time. But he partnered with Gleaners to create a mobile program to distribute meals throughout the year at organizations like Focus Hope.

One child in particular really stood out: A boy who decided he wanted to give back to the community for his 9th birthday. Erica Gamboa said her son, Mason, wanted to use his birthday this year to help out locally. Michigan Medicine now accepting cloth masks, 3D printed mask adjusters
Now, the health system is expanding donation items to include handmade cloth masks for non-patient care staff and 3D printed mask adjuster bands that provide relief to the ears of clinical staff wearing masks around the clock. Washable cloth masks are needed for Michigan Medicine staff returning to work over the next several weeks who are working in non-patient care settings in order to conserve medical grade masks for those working on the frontlines. Those planning to donate homemade masks are asked to use patterns provided by the CDC or from craft supply stores. The pattern approved by U-M for 3D printed mask adjusters can be found here. Michigan Medicine has also partnered with Food Gatherers and is collecting toiletries and non-perishable food items for those in need in the community.
