Warmer air surging in has pushed afternoon temperatures into the low 60s (16 to 17 degrees Celsius) in some parts of Metro Detroit, with others in Lenawee and Monroe counties even approaching 70 degrees (20 to 21 degrees Celsius) in spots.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Families caring for loved ones in Washtenaw County can now receive $1,000 scholarships to help with the cost of respite care. Offered by the Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter, the scholarships are aimed at relieving some of the stress and financial burden of caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. DETROIT – A Lakeshore Flood Advisory is in effect for Macomb, Monroe, Sanilac, St. Clair and Wayne counties until 4 a.m. Friday. Those winds bring in some lower temperatures below freezing. Then, just in time for spring, it becomes milder Saturday then warmer Sunday with more beautiful blue skies. Overnight lows will be in the lower middle 20s with windchill in the teens. Magna announces $70 million EV battery facility for Michigan
Magna International is breaking ground on a $70 million manufacturing facility in St. Clair, Mich. where it plans to build complex battery enclosures for the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer EV. This investment is expected to create 304 jobs in St. Clair over the next five years. AdIn St. Clair, Magna said it plans to construct a 345,000-square-foot facility with the ability to support an expansion of up to 1,000,000 square feet. AdMeanwhile, it was announced earlier this year that the Hummer EV would be built under the GMC brand name at GM’s “Factory Zero” facility at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. That was announced right after GM said it would invest more than $2 billion in Detroit to manufacture electric vehicles.

Intense wind brings down trees, causes mass power outages across Metro Detroit
METRO DETROIT – Strong winds Sunday brought down trees and caused mass power outages across Metro Detroit. MORE: Metro Detroit weather: Wind Advisory now in effectAs of 6:40 p.m. Sunday, more than 195,000 DTE customers are without power. The outages are spread across Metro Detroit with a large number near West Bloomfield. Ryan Stow, with DTE, said there have been about 1,000 downed power lines across Metro Detroit. DTE crews are assessing damage, and making repairs and restoring power, in areas where it is safe to do so.

National Weather Service issues freeze warning for all of Metro Detroit
DETROIT – The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning Thursday for most of southeast Michigan from 4 a.m. until 9 a.m. Friday. The freeze warning has been issued for Genesee, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Temperatures are expected to fall below 32 degrees. The NWS warns it could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and could damage unprotected plumbing.
COVID-19 case confirmed at Pepper Joe’s in St. Clair
St. Clair, Mich. – The St. Clair County Health Department announced Thursday that a coronavirus (COVID-19) case was confirmed at Pepper Joe’s in St. Clair. A press release from read that Pepper Joe’s management is working with the county’s health department and is in compliance with safety protocols as it remains open. The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 99,958 as of Thursday, including 6,440 deaths, state officials report. Thursday’s update represents 758 new cases and 16 additional deaths -- 15 of which were from a Vital Records review. Any peek of sunshine will result in temperatures near 95F. A second wave of showers and thunderstorms remain possible during the second half of the day that will potentially be as potent as earlier stormy weather. It will not be as hot with daytime temperatures reaching the middle 80s on Tuesday and in the upper 80s on Wednesday. Thursdays highs will reach the upper 80s. Friday and Saturday will have high temperatures near 90F or a bit more.
