Ann Arbor startup helps Jet’s Pizza launch text-to-order technology
ANN ARBOR – Jet’s Pizza is hoping to disrupt the industry with its new text-to-order technology. The pizza company has partnered with Ann Arbor-based startup Ordr AI to make text orders for customers a reality. More than 75% of stores are currently operating the technology and more than 1 million text orders have been placed since its launch. Jet’s Pizza is now offering 20% off pizzas to customers to text in their orders. “We teamed up, we hustled, we innovated, and we made something great,” John Jetts, President of Jet’s Pizza said in a statement.
J’s Penalty Box lets you bring the sports bar spirit home
For today’s Take-out Tuesday, Jason got the chance to talk with the crew at J’s Penalty Box about their loyal following, and some of their specialty dishes. Owner Janice Semma said J’s Penalty Box is a woman-owned sports bar in Ferndale, serving all scratch-made food. Bar Manager Jordan Semma said making it through lockdown was challenging, but they were lucky enough to adapt and keep their staff. “We created new positions to keep everybody still working and with us to help out our community,” Semma said. U.S. pizza sales, booming in pandemic, start to slow
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After a pandemic-fueled boom, U.S. pizza sales appear to be headed back to earth. Domino’s and Papa John’s pizza chains both said Thursday that their same-store sales lost steam in the fourth quarter compared to the huge increases they saw earlier in 2020. Same-store sales are expected to continue seeing percentage declines well into this year. Pizza delivery remains popular, but diners’ choices are expanding, with more restaurants now offering delivery. Ann Arbor-based Domino’s said its same-store sales __ or sales at stores open at least a year __ were up 11% in the October-December period.

Ann Arbor’s Miss Kim hosts pop-up series with local partners
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Expect pizza and wine during Miss Kim’s December lineup of tasty pop-ups. On the tails of its successful November pop-up series with James Beard Award-nominated chef Max Sussman, Miss Kim is partnering up with local food personalities Chef Jack Goforth and Kristie Brablec. From 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 5, 12 and 19, Goforth’s fermented Neapolitan-styled pizza will be served with wines selected by Brablec specifically for the pop-up. Everyone knows that Jason Carr is a foodie, and he stepped up his cooking game with this new kitchen device. Jason purchased a Countertop Pizza Cooker by Presto a couple of weeks ago. Jason wanted to see how well the gadget worked on other frozen items, like pizza rolls, and potato skins. John Grossi, of Amiccis Pizza, is a staple in the community. His family has been in the Detroit pizza business for decades, and now hes delivering to front line heroes. Were just trying to help the people that are doing the hard work, the heavy lifting or, you know, just doing our little bit to help, Grossi said. Woman crawls through shattered glass door of Livonia pizza place, rips cash register off desk
LIVONIA, Mich. – A woman was caught on video crawling through the shattered glass door of a Livonia pizza place and ripping the cash register off a desk before leaving, police said. The incident happened April 23 at Toarmina’s Pizza at 27630 Seven Mile Road. Video shows the woman squeezing through the bottom of the front glass door, which had been broken. She grabbed the cash register and ripped it free from a desk area, according to authorities. Anyone who recognizes the woman or has any information about the incident is asked to call Livonia police at 734-466-2325 and reference case No.
