Metro Detroit weather: Warmest high of the week expected Wednesday
DETROIT – Temperatures jump back above normal then fall right back down, all while we hunt for any sign of a single snowflake or raindrop. We’ll get there on Wednesday, with our warmest high of the week. Beyond that temperatures come right back to near normal levels, around 40 in the afternoons. The cold front that will drop temperatures for Thursday, along with a trailing trough, should sail through with very little moisture. AdNext Big ThingThe next big weather impact should come with a strong low pressure center arriving Wednesday.

Detroit’s average spring temperatures trending warmer
DETROIT – Today is the start of meteorological spring (astronomical spring, formally called the vernal equinox, begins March 20). For climatological purposes, we use the calendar months of March, April and May for our spring statistics, and global warming is having an impact on those stats. Check out this short video (above) -- it’s less than a minute and won’t waste your time. Trust me: I’ve received plenty of it over the years (some of it so untrue, misleading and sensationalistic that it made me angry), and all of it goes into the trash. Metro Detroit weather: Cold Sunday, snow returns tonight
After some morning sunshine and subzero conditions, temperatures rise and clouds gather this afternoon. Temperatures continue to rise and snow starts to fall tonight and tomorrow morning. We have not seen temperatures rise above freezing since Feb. 5, but there’s a good chance of that happening, Sunday afternoon. Monday morning, rain will mix with snow at times, and this will cut down on snow totals. Afternoon temperatures return to the 30s.

Metro Detroit weather: Temperatures tumble Tuesday night to coldest point in more than 2 years
DETROIT – Temperatures tumble tonight to our coldest point in more than two years. Temperatures will tumble to their lowest point since February 2019. But a lot of areas (if not most) outside the Metro Zone are on their way to negative numbers for overnight lows. Here’s some hope: temperatures will be on a slow, steady rise from that point into early next week. Past that point, we can actually look for some above normal temperatures.

Metro Detroit weather: Frigid temperatures continue with snow possible before next week
DETROIT – A lot of the Midwest is dealing with worse cold, but our temperatures aren’t getting warmer any time soon. Expect single digits in the Metro Zone, while some outlying areas in the North and Metro Zone will see negative lows (albeit briefly). Everyone except parts of the South Zone should miss any snow. Thursday night into Friday, we’ll get another round of light snow. Saturday night brings another round of light accumulation which should be done by breakfast on Sunday morning.

Metro Detroit weather: 2 light snow chances this weekend, then a significant snowstorm
DETROIT – Temperatures are headed to their coldest mark in nearly a year, and next week’s significant snow is coming into focus. Take solace in the fact that this will be the coldest we’ll have to endure through the end of the forecast. Temperatures will stay below freezing all day, every day, with the exception a few hours Monday afternoon, when we’ll peak at 34. Models are coming into more agreement that some of us will see significant snowfall, but the range will be fairly wide. Even though less than half of the snow will be on the ground at that point, snowfall rates will be robust.

Metro Detroit weather: A day of change with more on the way
DETROIT – Today’s high temperature of 44 degrees (6.5 degrees Celsius) sure felt good, right? You see, a cold front crossed the area around that time and, within two-to-three hours, temperatures had plummeted into the mid 30s (1 to 2 degrees Celsius), and that’s pretty much where we’ve been all day. Lows in the low 20s (-6 degrees Celsius), with a west wind at 10 to 15 mph. Temperatures may initially drop into the mid-to-upper 20s (-3 to -2 degrees Celsius), but then rise to near 30 degrees (-1 degrees Celsius) by dawn Wednesday.
