The bronze STARS rating was given to EMU by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. EMU is among the less than one quarter of all U.S. colleges to apply for the STARS rating, EMU officials said. The Ypsilanti universityโs work to immerse students in sustainability efforts and solutions led to the recognition, according to the STARS report. The STARS rating is the result of work since 2018, Kovacs said, though improvements are still to come.

Senator Gary Peters hosted a Veterans History project event on Friday, Dec. 9, in Eastern Michigan Universityโs Halle Library as a way to preserve the stories of military veterans that served from World War I to the present. Ramon Baca, director of Livingston County Veterans Services, never looked into documenting the 25 years he spent serving in the Army until this event. This event will contribute information to the Library of Congress American Folklife Centerโs Veterans History Project. The project was created in 2000 by the United States Congress as way to collect, preserve and share the narratives of veterans and Gold Star families in a national archive.

City Council plans to interview finalists for the position at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, potentially voting on the top choice then or during the bodyโs Jan. 10 meeting, when the new council member will be sworn in. City Council last appointed a new member in July, when Evan Sweet was chosen to fill a brief four-month vacancy caused by the resignation of then-Council Member Anthony Morgan. The vacancy process will likely complete the changing of the guard on City Council, which saw three first-time new members elected in November as well as the departure of longtime Council Member and Mayor Lois Allen-Richardson.

Though they donโt necessarily market themselves that way, many of the stateโs regional public universities have never rejected many of their applicants. Recalculating admission rates using only the number of applicants offered admission and the number rejected make Michiganโs college admissions landscape look very different.

YPSILANTI, MI - The Eastern Michigan University golf teams could see new facilities that would support practice ranges and simulators, according to an Ypsilanti Township site plan. The plan, submitted by EMU facility director Scott Storrar in June 2021, includes a 12,000-square-foot player performance center and an addition to the Eagle Crest Golf Course clubhouse, the site plan shows. โWe strongly support the significant investment and recommended preliminary site plan approval,โ Carlisle said. Most of these authorities provided positive feedback on the preliminary plan, indicating future permit approval. Township Planning Director Jason Iacoangeli recommend the Planning Commission approve the plan on a preliminary basis, contingent on EMU chiseling a final plan with the local authorities.
