Metro Detroit weather: Cooling down while tracking shower chances
The cold front that was the biggest threat for starting stronger storms is finally moving through Metro Detroit early this Wednesday morning. So, the severe threat hardly exists without daytime heating but some scattered rain and isolated thundershowers are present on Storm Tracker 4 Radar as you get ready to hit the road or pound the pavement.ย Keep the umbrella handy and know that our shower chances will be on the weak side this morning and slightly better later this afternoon. The cold front is losing strength and a lot of the moisture along with it. Temperatures are in the upper 60s to low 70s and will cool down just a little bit as this cold front passes through SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario and our high temps will not compete with the summer heat of the last several days. While most of the area is seeing these showers fade to nearly nothing, that umbrella may be needed a time or two later today so itโs a good idea to hang onto it just in case.
Metro Detroit weather: Warming week with 80s in sight
Good Monday morning!ย We do have a bit of cloud cover over Metro Detroit but no rain in the area with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s as you head out and about. What a Motherโs Day Weekend! We had nothing but sunshine and mid to upper 60s although some of your carmometers may have been reading 70 degrees both days. The clouds that rolled in overnight are from showers well off to our west and wonโt be a factor in our forecast today. We should see a beautiful sunrise as the sun battles through these clouds as the clouds begin to fade away making for a magnificent Monday.
Snowflakes move out but cold conditions remain
A push of colder air came in late last night and that encouraged the development of some spotty snow showers here early on a Wednesday toward the end of April here in Metro Detroit. Those snow showers laid down a coating on grassy surfaces in our North Zone but most of us wonโt see any such concern. Most of those flakes are flying away as our weather disturbance moves east pretty quickly early this morning. There are some clouds lingering in the wake of this system and they will be with us this morning into the early afternoon. The bigger concern this morning is the cold air dropping our temps to and below freezing for a couple of hours this morning. The clouds act like insulation, keeping temps from tumbling into a killing freeze for hours and hours. That is the case in parts of Indiana and Ohio early today.ย The breeze puts our wind chills in the low and mid 20s so youโll need the winter garb if youโre letting the dog take you for a walk or if you walk or catch a bus to work.ย That breeze does mix the air around too which prevents too much frost from forming but itโs not too late to cover any sensitive vegetation if you have concerns early today. It will be even colder around here Thursday morning.
Metro Detroit weather: Tracking rain and snow showers
Good Tuesday morning! The Monday showers moved out and some residual clouds are still moving across our skies without the threat of wet weather early on this Tuesday morning. Most of Metro Detroit is covered in temperatures near 40 degrees with a few spots dipping down into the upper 30s under mostly cloudy skies south to partly cloudy skies over most of our area. There is a slight breeze, and the wind chills as you head out and about from sunrise through about 8-9 a.m. will be in the lower 30s which means the thicker coat if youโre out walking the dog or waiting for that bus.
Metro Detroit weather: Spring showers Monday with cooler week ahead
It was a somewhat dramatic ending to an early taste of Summer here in Metro Detroit this weekend. Sunday highs flirted with the record books and then a line of storms formed in the heat of the late afternoon and evening. Those strong to severe storms moved on, but the cold front that sparked the stormy end of our weekend will stall out and continue to draw in rain showers through this Monday morning so grab the umbrella as you head out with temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. This front is eventually going to push through later, so we need to be prepared for continued rain chances across all of SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario even if it is not raining as you hit the road.
3 kinds of flood insurance and what they donโt cover
Flooded streets. Storage bins floating in a waterlogged basement. Piles of moldy belongings lining the curb. These sights are only becoming more common when Spring weather hits Michigan each year. And what follows usually involves frustrating phone calls with insurance companies and budget-breaking bills.
Metro Detroit weather: Rain and snow showers to start the week
Good Monday morning!ย Storm Tracker 4 is keeping a close eye and handle on rain and snow showers moving closer and closer to Metro Detroit but we start the early morning hours on the dry side with mid 30s as you head out with a lighter wind SE 5-10mph which will pick up later today.ย The timing is everything for the wet weather because itโs cool enough over SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario for some snow to mix with rain in the leading edge of the Monday showers. Expect a rain/snow mix by about 6 a.m. switching to rain later in the morning and this could be mainly rain for some as it moves through here. Snow will want to stick to your car, to grassy surfaces, but it will struggle to stick to the streets especially with most of our area near or above freezing. Parts of our West and South Zones may get into the action before 6 a.m., but most of us see more trouble coming around or just after 6 a.m., as the mix will be trending to the rain category with snow showers likely lingering north of M 59.
