ANN ARBOR, MI -- Although the more-official numbers won’t be available for weeks, organizers and participants at this year’s Ann Arbor Art Fair say it was one of the best they’ve ever seen. The 2021 Ann Arbor Art Fair was originally canceled for the second year in a row due to COVID-19, but was later reinstated after pandemic regulations loosened. “Thursday and Saturday were crazy,” said Karen Delhey, Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair executive director. “I haven’t seen a Saturday that busy in years,” said Frances Todoro-Hargreaves, State Street Art Fair executive director. While it’s not as good of a bet on dry weather Friday morning as Thursday morning, Friday midday is your best bet for Friday dryness. ANN ARBOR – The Ann Arbor Art Fair is the largest juried art fair in the country, and event organizers just announced a major change for the 2021 fair and beyond. Until now, the event has consisted of four fairs that seamlessly create what appears to be one massive fair: the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, the Original, the South University Art Fair and the State Street Art Fair. AdSince the South University Area Association dissolved in December 2020, it was unclear what would happen with this year’s fair. Although the South University Area Association plans to regroup sometime this year, art fair was not on the table. “Moving forward we will do everything we can to respect the integrity and history of the Ann Arbor South University Fair while also incorporating some of the Guild’s structures,” wrote Delhey.

Glass artist known for social media scavenger hunts in Ann Arbor launches miniature art exchange
The Take Art Leave Art box and gallery in Shawn Bungo's yard in Ann Arbor. ANN ARBOR – When glass artist Shawn Bungo and his wife moved to Tree Town from Knoxville, Tennessee six months ago, they knew moving to a new city during a pandemic would be a challenge. “Being a glass artist, you have a lot of pieces that don’t come out, so that’s what started that,” said Bungo. Bungo constructed a Take Art Leave Art box and gallery outside his home on Ann Arbor’s south side. “I just recently put it back up two weeks ago and I shared it with the Ann Arbor Townies group on Facebook,” said Bungo.

We got the chance to meet some members of the community when they stopped by our booth at the Ann Arbor Art Fair this past Thursday and Friday. Despite the heat and the rain, the community flooded the streets of Ann Arbor this weekend to support the arts. The event, which is one of the largest outdoor art fairs in the country, turns the streets of Ann Arbor into a gallery for artists to showcase and sell their work. ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Despite the extremely hot conditions, the Ann Arbor Art Fair has taken over the city's downtown area, with thousands expected to visit over the weekend. High humidity combined with near-record heat will lead to dangerous conditions for those who are not prepared. Staying in an air-conditioned area is important during a heat wave like this one. Local 4's Mara MacDonald was at the art fair Friday to see how officials are bracing for the heat. Misters were spread throughout the fair and paramedics are expected to be riding through the fair all weekend.
