The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for southeastern Saint Clair County until 10 a.m. Tuesday. ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. โ Ice jams along the St. Clair River caused significant flooding in Algonac to Port Huron Tuesday and Wednesday. Pieces of ice collect and dam off the river, causing it to back up. What was uncommon was the typical help used to prevent the St. Clair River from spilling over wasnโt available, causing damage all along the river. Michigan family reunited with cat lost during devastating Midland floods
MIDLAND COUNTY, Mich. โ Itโs been eight months since the devastating floods in Midland County. โShe did find us for a reason, I believe,โ Ashley Flood said. โAnd so, we actually, we definitely played our part, I think.โOn a cold snowy winter day, The Flood family heard a cat outside meowing for hours. โIt seemed well fed and its coat was rather clean,โ Ashley Flood said. They took the cat to the Humane Society of Midland County and found out the cat was micochipped.
Sanford Lake residents optimistic things will return to normal
LANSING, Mich. โ Labor Day Weekend on Sanford Lake is typically filled with boats and people having fun on the water. After Mayโs dam failures emptied the lake, many residents are left wondering how long itโll take to come back. Residents are still hopeful things will return to normal. The state ordered Boyce Hydro -- the owners of the dams -- to make emergency repairs Tuesday, but since the company filed for bankruptcy, the state will likely be forced to foot the bill. Residents in Royal Oak near 13 Mile Road and Main Street were reliving a nightmare -- all their basements flooded six years ago in a historic flooding and had to deal with flooding again Friday morning. Westbound I-94 at Cass Avenue in Detroit looked like a river and I-96 at Beech Daly Road in Redford was closed due to flooding. Some drivers in Dearborn, Melvindale and Royal Oak tried to power their way through flooded streets and ended up getting stuck.

Lincoln Park neighborhood copes with recurring flood damages
LINCOLN PARK, Mich. Metro Detroit saw its share of rain, fallen trees, power outages and floods overnight -- when the rain started coming in, Lincoln Park residents started to worry. The block at Cleveland Avenue and Howard Street flooded and residents are frustrated because they said its not the first time. When Jennifer Trippe let her dog out Sunday morning, she saw that the street outside had flooded and she immediately ran to check her basement. Lincoln Park city officials said at least a dozen homes experienced flooding and crews with the Department of Public Safety have been doing inspections Saturday. A tree in front of a vacant house came down Sunday, blocking a womans front door and driveway, trapping her car.

Theres a big question about who should have to pay for the drain issue blamed for the mess. Residents, like Marie Ferguson, tried to handle the water and tried to save her belongings with a 3-month-old baby in her arms. Who is going to pay for this?Renters said renters insurance isnt going to pay because floods arent covered. Property ownership is blaming city of Royal Oak drains for not being able to handle heavy rain, but the drains are on their property.

Horses displaced by Midland floods find home at west Michigan rescue farm
WEST BRANCH, Mich. Several horses displaced by the pandemic and flooding across parts of central Michigan have found a new home at a rescue farm. The 20 acre farm and 13,000-square-foot barn and riding facility is now home to 38 horses, donkeys, mules, ponies and miniature horses. Were kind of the retirement home for horses, said Dolores 'Doris' Harris, chief financial officer and founder of D&R Acres, of West Branch. Although many animals stay at D&R Acres for the rest of their days, the farm does adopt out equines once the animal adjusts to the situation.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer adds 3 counties to flood-related state of emergency
Gretchen Whitmer has added three counties to her state of emergency issued as a result of two dam failures that caused devastating floods in the middle of the state. Arenac, Gladwin and Saginaw counties have been added to the state of emergency that was issued for Midland County. โI have declared an emergency to provide much needed assistance and have added Arenac, Gladwin and Saginaw counties to the declaration to ensure access to critical resources. (WDIV)Officials evacuated 750 Saginaw County residents, 500 Arenac County residents and more than 100 Gladwin County residents due to rising waters. By adding them to the state of emergency, Whitmer allows these three counties to receive law enforcement and shelter support, road repair help, search and rescue services and more.
Michigan Republican Party asks attorney general to give feds control of investigation into Midland tragedy
DETROIT โ In recent days the Detroit News and Bridge Magazine have published stories about Michigan Attorney General Dana Nesselโs lawsuit against the owner of the Edenville Dam, which tragically failed on Tuesday forcing thousands to evacuate their homes because of the floods. Nessel wanted more water added to promote the safety of freshwater mussels, which she alleged were being damaged by the low water levels. Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox is calling on Nessel to recuse her office from the investigation of the Edenville Dam tragedy and transfer the inquiry to federal authorities. "With these troubling new revelations that the stateโs lawsuits may have played a role in this tragedy, it is clear that Attorney General Dana Nessel should not lead this investigation. Therefore, the Michigan Republican Party calls for the Attorney General to turn over the investigation of the Edenville Damโs failure to federal authorities.
