Booksweet, 1729 Plymouth Road, is hosting two events on Sunday, Oct. 9, including a Anishinaabe story time for children and a garden design program for teens and adults. Indigenous Peoples Day is recognized on the second Monday of October. The story time event, beginning at 2 p.m., also features a creative activity, Anishinaabe snacks and a visit from Nimkii. A rare look inside Ann Arbor’s EPA lab helping the nation curb auto emissions

MLive/The Ann Arbor News was granted a rare tour of the lab this past week, joining U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell and several EPA officials from Ann Arbor and Chicago, including Regional Administrator Debra Shore. The range stats now shown on EV labels at dealerships throughout the country are all audited and certified by the Ann Arbor EPA lab. Counting an EPA office building adjacent to the Ann Arbor lab, there are over 200 workers at the Plymouth Road location. PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI – Police are looking for the driver of a car that sideswiped a police cruiser on I-275 and fled the scene this weekend. A police cruiser that was stopped at the scene was struck on its passenger side by a dark colored Ford Bronco, the release said. The Plymouth Township Police Department is searching for the driver of a Ford Bronco who sideswiped a police cruiser on I-275 on Feb. 19. Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the Ford Bronco and its driver. Police said the Ford Bronco, which was described as “newer” looking, should have damage along the driver’s side as a result of the crash.

Ann Arbor OKs high-density zoning for transit corridors, but not without drama

ANN ARBOR, MI — Ann Arbor’s future tallest building could rise somewhere outside of downtown under new high-density zoning approved for the city’s major transit corridors. After much debate and amid allegations some council members are doing favors for campaign donors, City Council voted 8-3 to approve the new TC1 zoning Tuesday night, July 6. $2.7M will bring bike lane, street improvements to Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, MI - The Ann Arbor City Council has approved $2.7 million, including about $1.3 million in federal funds, for street restoration and bike lane installation on Plymouth Road. Additionally, Plymouth Road’s lanes will be slightly narrowed to facilitate a 1.2-mile long westbound bicycle lane to Maiden Lane and Moore Street. Car smashes into stop sign near UM medical campus, killing female passenger

ANN ARBOR TWP., MI - A car smashed into an Ann Arbor area stop sign early Sunday morning, killing a female passenger from Westland, officials said. Firefighters responded around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, to the 4200 block of Plymouth Road near Earhart Road in Ann Arbor Township. The incident happened near the entrance to the University of Michigan’s East Medical campus. A male driver was headed east on Plymouth Road prior to the sign being hit, officials from the Ann Arbor Township Fire Department said. The 33-year-old female passenger died at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after Huron Valley Ambulance transported her from the scene.

City of Ann Arbor seeks community input on Lower Town mobility study

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The City of Ann Arbor wants to know how you would improve getting around Lower Town. Community members are being asked to share their thoughts and pre-pandemic experiences as drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users in the Lower Town area, located just north of Broadway Bridge. Currently in the idea generation phase of a mobility study, the city is asking residents to fill out and share a survey to help see how growth has impacted community members who drive, ride, cycle and walk through the area. New Ann Arbor roads closures to start Monday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Expect delays next Monday when two new road closures in downtown Ann Arbor begin. Northwest-bound traffic will use Maiden Lane to access Broadway Street, Plymouth Road or Moore Street. At 9 a.m. the same day, East William Street between South Main Street and South Fourth Avenue will close for ten days for road work. Eastbound traffic on West William Street will be detoured to South Main Street, Packard Street, South Fourth Avenue and onto East William Street. Traffic coming in the opposite direction will do the reverse by detouring to South Fourth Avenue, Packard Street, South Main Street and then to West William Street.

Police pursuit ends in crash on Detroit’s west side

DETROIT – A police pursuit ended in a crash Sunday night on Detroit’s west side. Police said it started when Redford police spotted a carjacking suspect out of Livonia. Michigan State Police joined the pursuit that ended when police said the suspect crashed into a Jeep near the intersection of Plymouth Road and Marlowe Street. According to authorities, the Jeep was transporting a mother and child, who were rushed to the hospital. Police said they are expected to be OK and the suspect was taken into custody.

Police said the victim was attempting to cross the street when they were struck by a white vehicle traveling westbound on Plymouth Road. Construction projects to impact Ann Arbor traffic this week

Three new road construction projects will impact traffic downtown and on the east side of Ann Arbor starting Monday. Below is the city of Ann Arbor announcement:Glazier Way between Huron Parkway and Green Road, Green Road between Glazier Way and Plymouth Road:Monday, Sept. 14 – Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020. The contractor will maintain westbound Glazier Way traffic. The contractor will maintain southbound Green Road traffic. Vehicles traveling westbound on Liberty Street will be detoured south on Main Street, west on William Street, then north on Second Street back to Liberty Street.

Man arrested after 6-year-old girl killed in Detroit crash

DETROIT – Police said a 43-year-old man driving a pickup at a high rate of speed disregarded a red light and collided with a Dodge Caravan that was carrying multiple passengers. A 17-year-old man was driving the Dodge Caravan southbound on the Southfield Freeway Service Drive with three passengers: A 46-year-old woman, 13-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl. All of the passengers in the Dodge Caravan were transported by medics to a local hospital. He was then arrested and transported to the Detroit Detention Center.

DETROIT – A Detroit family is mourning the death of little girl killed in a car crash after a driver ran a red light. Her father, Karone, said this couldn’t have happened at a worse time. “We were just finally starting to get back on our feet somewhat, and for this to happen, it’s just a nightmare," Karon said. “I don’t know how (I’m going to) pay for my daughter’s services, and on top of that, I’m trying to help my aunt. Shot fired during police chase on Detroits west side

DETROIT Detroit police are investigating an incident involving gunfire that happened Friday afternoon in the area of Plymouth Road and Wyoming Avenue. Police say a shot was fired around 3 p.m. as officers tried stopping a man. Police say as the man ran from police he pulled out a gun. When officers heard the gun go off they grabbed the man and arrested him. According to police, although the gun went off, the man was not intentionally trying to target officers.

Woman killed in altercation on Plymouth Road in Detroit

DETROIT – A 58-year-old woman died Saturday night amid an altercation that turned physical on Detroit’s west side. A preliminary investigation by Detroit police indicated that the victim accompanied a 55-year-old man, who was involved in a verbal altercation with another man in the 14600 block of Plymouth Road. Police said the second man allegedly entered his vehicle and struck the 55-year-old man’s Ford Taurus. The 58-year-old woman was standing behind the Taurus at the time and was struck by the vehicle. 2 charged after striking, killing 48-year-old driver while fleeing Detroit police

DETROIT Two people have been charged following the death of a 48-year-old man who was killed in a car crash on Friday. The man was struck by a 19-year-old driver who was fleeing Detroit police. Officers identified the suspects vehicle traveling south on West Outer Drive near Plymouth Road. The 48-year-old man driving the Honda Odyssey was transported to the hospital following the crash, where he was pronounced dead. On Monday Stringer was charged with second-degree murder, first- and second-degree fleeing and eluding, reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing serious impairment of bodily function.

48-year-old man killed when driver fleeing police disregards red light, police say

At the time, it was broadcast to other officers that the suspect was driving a white Chrysler 300. The 48-year-old man was transported to a local hospital where he was pounced dead. The woman, who is 19 years old, driving the Chrysler 300 was taken into custody. A 21-year-old man was in the back seat of the Chrysler 300 and he was also taken into custody. Two other occupants, a 15-year-old girl and a 33-year-old man, are also being treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

So far, police have not provided many details regarding the shooting. Officials did say that the man is in police custody and a weapon was recovered at the scene. Detroit police: Man shot by officer armed, selling drugs at gas station

DETROIT A 27-year-old man was shot by a Detroit police officer on the citys west side on Sunday night. Detroit Police Chief James Craig says the investigation is young, but was able to provide some details during a news conference Monday afternoon. According to Craig, police assigned to the area noticed the man carrying a concealed weapon outside of a green light gas station around 11 p.m. in the area of Plymouth Road and Wyoming Avenue. One officer fired between five and six rounds of his weapon at the suspect, officials said. Officials say the man continued to run after he was struck.

Police have provided little information about what led up to the shooting. The shooting happened in the area of Plymouth and Wyoming. Police say the man is in custody and was taken to the hospital. Police also say a weapon was recovered at the scene.
