SiriusXM debuts Motown and Aretha Franklin channels for Black History Month

SiriusXM is celebrating Black History Month with some new music channels which pay tribute to the Motor City. The limited-engagement channels are now streaming on both the SiriusXM satellite platform and the SiriusXM app through March 1. On top of the Motown and Aretha Franklin channels, SiriusXM has channels celebrating the music of Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Bob Marley and B.B. The Aretha Franklin Channel (Channel 49 from Feb. 15 through Feb. 21) will feature Franklin’s iconic catalog, from her early recordings to biggest hits. King’s Bluesville Powered by The Blues Foundation (Channel 74) will pay tribute to the founding artists of blues music and other prominent blues artists.

January 20 will now forever be known as “What’s Going On” Day in Michigan to celebrate one of the biggest and most influential Motown hits in music history, “What’s Going On,” which was released a half century ago. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has officially recognized the day to mark the 50th anniversary of the release of Marvin Gaye’s single.
