Throughout the state today, people were digging out, clearing driveways, and working to get things back to normal. We’re also seeing the kindness of neighbors shining through by helping seniors who can’t get out and shovel the snow themselves.

Port Huron CBP officers brave severe weather to aid driver in vehicle fire
PORT HURON, Mich. – Two US Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers risked their own safety despite severe winter weather to help a driver whose car was engulfed in flames on M-25 near Lakeport on Tuesday, Feb. 16. While searching the officer found the driver in a nearby vehicle provided by a good samaritan to help escape the cold. Both the driver and good samaritan noted it was difficult to call for emergency assistance because of the lack of cell phone service. “This is another shining example of our officers going to great lengths to provide assistance to those in need”, said Port Huron Area Port Director Michael Fox. “I’m proud of the valiant efforts CBP personnel provide to our community during times like this.”Read more: Headlines from across Michigan

Metro Detroit road crews out in full force ahead of winter storm
OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Snow emergencies are being issued across Metro Detroit as cities anticipate heavy snowfall Monday night into Tuesday morning. Local 4 spoke with Craig Bryson with the Oakland County Road Commission. 3K TCF Center COVID vaccination appointments in Detroit rescheduled due to severe weather

DETROIT – Three thousand COVID-19 vaccination appointments scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the TCF Center will be moved to Saturday, Feb. 20 due to severe weather, according to the city of Detroit. “Due to the major snowfall and expected difficult driving conditions, 3,000 COVID vaccination appointments scheduled for Tuesday at the TCF Center will be moved to Saturday. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan stated that the move was the right approach considering the fact that getting to the TCF Center Tuesday could be very difficult for a lot of people. In a news release the city stated that contractors will plow all residential streets starting early Tuesday.
