Jason Carr chatted with Radar Perkaj, the co-owner of Spread Detroit about their sandwiches and new business hours. Spread Detroit is a sandwich shop that has unique names for its tasty lunch items. You could try a “Nuna Tuna” sandwich, a “Big Al” or an “Old Kanye” that Perkaj joked is better than the new Kanye. Spread Detroit is also spreading into new business hours and menu items with their new brunch and after-dark menu.

Whisky Jack’s BBQ is a husband and wife team that loves to cook and bring lots of BBQ to the metro Detroit area in their food truck. The food truck has been open since 2015. The food truck is known for its baby back ribs, tasty chicken, and smoky pulled pork. You can usually find the Food Truck in Monroe on 1837 North Monroe St. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Novi – From fried rice to fresh lettuce wraps, China Cafe will give you an authentic taste of Chinese cuisine. The owners, Kelly and Susana Chang, have infused their unique history into the food as well, making China Cafe a family favorite. Today for Dine in the D we went to Clawson to pick up some BBQ from Woodpile BBQ Shack! Another owner, Zac Idzikowski, noticed the old A&W was for sale in Clawson and he wanted to open up a BBQ joint. Their BBQ is pinned down to one region’s style, instead, Zac wanted to emulate his favorite items from across the south.

Victor Ventigmilia told us all about Ventimiglia Italian Foods and their sister restaurant Mangiabevi Urban Italian. They are known for their classic Italian sub and their eggplant sub. They have fresh Italian bread seasoned with olive oil and everything is made fresh. The family restaurant, Mangiabevi, offers urban Italian cuisine where you can get tasty carryout meals. Looking for something different for dinner? Krazy Shawarma in Rochester Hills offers shawarmas, falafels, hummus, and more. Krazy Shawarma offers a special type of bread for those looking to reduce their carb intake. They also offer different Greek and fattoosh salads that you can add protein to or you can get shawarmas as salad bowls. They also offer their signature krazy fries which are fries covered in parmesean cheese with krazy sauce on the side.

Detroit – For over 100 years people have been meeting at this old church in the Atkinson Avenue neighborhood of Detroit, but now people are gathering for a new reason, delicious food and drinks! In March of this year, the church opened its doors again, as The Congregation, a café. One of the major features you see in the space is a large organ. You will also spot beautifully restored stained glass around the building, as well as old pews, and other church furniture. Out front their sign says “Café, Coffee, Cocktails, and Community” and that is exactly what they offer.

While this Clarkston restaurant is fairly new to the scene, opening its doors in May of 2019, the owner, Lindon Palushaj, is no stranger to running a restaurant. This latest addition actually has a sister restaurant called 24th Street Tavern. To go with their large restaurant are some large portions of food! They love to have specials that catch people’s attention online since it brings people into their restaurant. Plymouth – It’s Take-Out Tuesday when we feature restaurants that also offer to-go or curbside pick-up to help support traditionally dine-in restaurants during the pandemic. Today we dropped by a restaurant whose mascot is almost as big of an attraction as the food. Stella’s Black Dog Tavern in Downtown Plymouth is a popular place. Stella’s Black Dog Tavern offers a variety of tavern-style food as well as some upscale dishes. Southgate – We hope you have a monster of an appetite because you will need it if you’re getting takeout from Mallie’s Grill and Bar in Southgate. While the burger is enough to feed the family and then some, it is not the largest one they ever made. They hold the Guinness Book World Record for the largest burger with a 1,800-pound burger. Rochester – Whether you try their delicious, homemade, seafood linguine, or there perfectly crispy grilled chicken pizza you will have no doubts that they know what they are doing here at D’Marcos Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar. Mark Mendola’s family has been in the restaurant industry for almost 100 years, opening their first restaurant in Pennsylvania in the 1930s. Since October is National Pizza Month, and National Pasta Month, we are checking out a mom and pop restaurant that is serving up great pizzas and more for dine-in or curbside delivery. The Alibi restaurant in Troy is family-owned, and Cindy Maier, one of the owners, joined host Tati Amare to discuss what they have to offer. Pizza is their most popular menu item, and it is no wonder, with them hand-tossing the dough and making everything from scratch. Halloween is one of their biggest carry-out days of the year and Maier predicts they will send out over 1,000 pizzas. At Supernatural Brewing and Spirits, you could say the food and drink are out of this world. A group of friends created this brewpub to be a place they wanted to hang out. Once they found a building at the intersection of Plymouth and Ann Arbor Roads in Livonia, they seized the opportunity and created Supernatural Brewing and Spirits. They were tossing around names that fit the logo, and when someone said Supernatural, they knew they found their name. They are a favorite to grill up at home, eat at a restaurant, or grab for takeout. Chef and Co-owner Hass Bazzy joined Tati Amare live from his Midtown restaurant for today’s Take Out Tuesday. He believes his restaurant is different from other burger spots in town because they use really unique and feature fresh ingredients. This applies to all of their food, like their new grouper tacos which are made with fresh grouper from Florida. It is a rule Bazzy implores all customers to follow, as it helps everyone including the restaurant.

Here in the D, there are many Hispanic cultures that make up our city’s melting pot. For today’s “Take-Out Tuesday”, Jason Carr spoke to Betty Shuell, co-owner of Culantro in Ferndale. The restaurant is known for their signature and authentic Peruvian dishes. Culantro brought the authentic flavors of Peru over to Ferndale two years ago and has been in the area ever since. It is then cooked in their special oven which they brought from Peru.

Grosse Pointe Park – Here at Atwater in the Park, the beer is flowing, and the schnitzel is fresh and ready to eat. Atwater continued to grow, and about 7 years ago they took over a church in Grosse Pointe Park, and remade it into a brewpub, calling it Atwater in the Park. Atwater in the Park is located at 1175 Lakepointe Street in Grosse Pointe Park. They are hosting a socially-distant Oktoberfest in their biergarten on October 3rd from noon to midnight. You can also celebrate with them virtually by getting Atwater Beer to-go and tagging them in pictures you post on social media, which they may share.

In St. Clair Shores, there is a place that takes classic dishes and gives them a culinary twist. That place is Corner Kitchen. Chef and Co-owner Shannon Nowowiecki joined Jason Carr to talk about his restaurant and the take-out they offer. Chef Shannon says their goal at Corner Kitchen is to put a twist on classic food we all know and love, and make it all from scratch. Corner Kitchen also expanded and is now offering local groceries.

Southwest Detroit – From the brightly colored murals to their sizzling fajitas, La Palapa del Parian gives you a taste of Mexico. This new restaurant, located in Southwest Detroit, gets part of its name from the small city in Mexico where the owners are from, El Parian. “It’s a little town in Guadalajara, Jalisco,” said Nancy Diaz-Lopez, the owner. They have live mariachi.”The “La Palapa” part of their name is a nod to how the restaurant got started. If you would like to try La Palapa Del Parian, it is located at 1633 Lawndale Street in Southwest Detroit.

There is a place right here in Detroit that you can take out honestly good brunch favorites no matter what time of day. It is Honest John’s! Located in Midtown, Honest John’s has been serving up great food in Detroit for the last 25 years. Despite the pandemic, they are still operating 9am to Midnight every day, serving customers on their patio and through it’s take out window. Adam Russell, General Manager of Honest John’s, joined Jason Carr to talk about the takeout process and menu which includes its chicken and waffles, fruity pebbles French toast and to-go cocktails.

Jared Gadbaw co-owner and award-winning chef of Oak & Reel talked about his return back to the D and what you can expect at his new restaurant. Oak & Reel focuses on seafood and incorporates yummy, Italian flavors, and sides. Chef Gadbaw says guests will have extra legroom. If you’ve walked around downtown Royal Oak recently, you will have noticed Mr. B’s, a long time sports bar, has closed, and in its spot is the all-new Alchemi. The chic new restaurant is still headed by former Mr. B’s owner, John Prepolec, more commonly known as Johnny Prep. This new restaurant is much more in line with his style of cooking and he is excited about the change. They spent the pandemic completely remodeling the very large restaurant dividing it into two, Alchemi, and Prep’s Gaming Room and Nightclub. If you would like to try out Alchemi, it is located at 215 S Main Street in Royal Oak.

There is place in Ypsilanti, close to the famous Depot Town, that offers great take-out along with Metro Detroit made beer. It is called Corner Brewery. They are the restaurant side of Arbor Brewing Companys Ypsi location. Kim Degiulio spoke to Corner Brewerys Kitchen Manager, Alex Upham, about the take-out process. Whether youre catching some sun on the boat, or splashing around by the pool, North 42 is ready and waiting to serve you an enticing meal. North 42 is a waterfront restaurant, located inside MacRay Harbor on Lake St. Clair. According to the owner, MacRay Harbor used to be a swamp. There is a restaurant that is new to the Detroit food scene that gives you fine dining with a casual flair. It is called Sloppy Chops restaurant. Located on McNichols Road, the restaurant offers food and hand- crafted cocktails that are simple, elegant, and full of flavor. The restaurant is new to the food scene, but Chef Al is not. With his new restaurant, Chef Al offers customers beautifully plated food that looks as good as it tastes.

“My father and his partner actually developed the entire block, the physical block,” explains Stephanie. She called the development a “labor of love” for her family, so they called the restaurant “The Block” to commemorate that. They are very proud to be Black developers and like to use their success to help promote other Black-owned businesses. That is a part of their Black Wines and Spirits Happy Hour, along with the McBride Sisters Estate Wine “Black Girl Magic Rose,” Uncle Nearest Whiskey, and Anteel Tequila. All Black brands are $5, and Happy Hour is weekdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Then take a trip to Europe and Asia through your taste buds. White Wolf Patisserie takes you on a sweet trip by offering delectable desserts that are heavily influenced by Japanese and French pastries. National Chili Dog Day is Thursday and since Detroit is famous for its chili dogs, or Coney dogs as we call them, we thought we would showcase a neighborhood favorite: Lipuma’s Coney Island in Rochester. Tony Lipuma, owner of Lipuma’s, joined Tati Amare from his restaurant via Skype to talk about his restaurant, which has been in his family for generations. Tony says Lipuma’s has takeout meals for everyone. While they are best known for their Coney Dogs, or a chili hot dog with mustard and onions, Lipuma’s offer a slightly expanded menu that features things like Greek salads, tacos and homemade soups. Besides their menu, Tony says Lipuma’s stands out for other reasons: “This place has a vibe, a personality.”You can get a glimpse of that vibe in the video above, plus learn how you can enjoy a Lipuma meal at a nearby park location.

Ann Arbor Imagine this...you are sitting underneath a twinkling sky, while smooth jazz fills the room, and you dine on delicious American fare. That's the kind of night that awaits you at the Blue LLama Jazz Club. He owned LLamasoft, which is a software company in Ann Arbor, for about 20 years, explains Louis Goral, the Executive Chef and General Manager at Blue LLama Jazz Club. Typically they feature Jazz music, but they dabble in world music as well. So if you are looking for a fun night out, with food and entertainment, check out the Blue LLama Jazz Club where they are dishing up both!

Originally he thought of making Fat Panda Kitchen into a restaurant but noticed there were several Asain Fusion restaurants in the area. Where are the closest Moroccan restaurants in the city? So I did a Google search and nothing popped up, said Omar. So in April of 2019, he opened Saffron De Twah, adding his own flair to classic Moroccan foods and flavors. The restaurant is small but features lots of colorful lanterns on the wall, and a beautiful mural on the outside wall. Taylor Known for its wide range of homemade soups, fresh salads, and hearty sandwiches, Petes Place knows how to make you feel at home. After a while, he decided to open up a second location in Taylor, making it even bigger. Other favorites include their large salads, plentiful breakfasts, a list of grinders, and more. Downtown Detroit How does a cinnamon roll pancake sound? How about churro French toast? Located in downtown Detroit on Woodward Avenue, this brunch spot got its name from the department store that used to be right across the street, Hudsons. New favorites include their Churro French Toast which is French toast strips covered in cinnamon sugar with two dipping sauces. Their menu features a long list of specialty pancakes, French toast, and Eggs Benedict.

Today Takeout Tuesday is featuring a fun place in Clawson called Three Cats Cafe. Host Tati Amare was joined by Executive Chef, Matt Prentice who described how the cafe is changing things up for customers. The cafe has been offering delivery and pick-up orders since March and are now open for dine in services as well. Its not unusual for us to do carry-outs for 100 to 150 people a day, said Prentice. Plymouth As of Monday, you now have the option to dine-in at restaurants, but you can always still get take-out, and for todays Take-Out Tuesday we are featuring one of the oldest log cabin restaurants around town, Karls Cabin in Plymouth. The log cabin building is over 70 years old and has been home to various taverns and restaurants. The Poulos family bought the restaurant in 1982.. Like many restaurants, they had to change things up due to recent events and created a drive-thru option for their carryout. Clemens Just because traveling is difficult right now, it doesnt mean you cant enjoy food from all across the country! Southwest Detroit Detroit 75 Kitchen, a very popular food truck located permanently on Fort street in Southwest Detroit, recently re-opened for business. This unique food truck has been drawing people to it for years with its colorful street art on the surrounding fences, planters full of herbs and vegetables, and cherry red umbrellas covering picnic tables. Brothers Ahmed and Mike opened the food truck as a way to serve their customers at the gas station their family owns next door. "We needed to supplement our business [the gas station] with food for our drivers. So we said, Hey, we are going to start a food truck and provide them with an eating option that is exceptional. "So they did!
