Many are excited about the neighborhood grocery store right on Manistique. “This is the upcoming neighborhood grocery. Wright is the owner of the upcoming grocery store. The checkout counter, we’re going to rebuild the checkout counter here,” said Wright.
54-year-old man killed in Southfield pedestrian crash
Police say the driver stayed at the scene of the Southfield pedestrian crash and alcohol was not a contributing factor. SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 54-year-old Fraser man was killed in a Southfield pedestrian crash that happened around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim was crossing 9 Mile Road and Providence Drive when a driver struck him. Police say the driver stayed at the scene of the crash and that alcohol was not a contributing factor. As of 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday 9 Mile Road was closed from Providence Drive to Greenfield Road.

Detroit’s ‘Good Neighbor’ vaccine program expands, Metro Detroit residents now eligible
DETROIT – The city of Detroit is taking major steps to get seniors in the city vaccinated. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced Wednesday an expansion of the city’s “Good Neighbor” program to make it easier to get vaccinated with an incentive to help others. Anyone who is 55-years or older who drives a Detroit senior citizen to get vaccinated can get vaccinated too -- regardless of where they live. Active members of the clergy who live or work in Detroit and whose ministry brings them into face-to-face contact with congregation members. Detroit residents 18+ with intellectual and developmental disabilities, caregivers of those residents and home healthcare providers if they travel in the same vehicle during the appointment.

Metro Detroit haircare business breaks through, expands beyond Ferndale store
DETROIT – Haith and Henry Johnson started Le’Host Hair in their basement and after years of hard work, they now have their products on the shelves of major stores. Le’Host products caught the eye of Walmart executives and the products now are on the shelves of the world’s largest retail store. She took the products she had been developing and selling at her brick-and-mortar store to Walmart, where she won a pitch contest to get her natural-hair and wig friendly products into stores. Police: Suspected burglars shoot at officers, chased through Wayne County
INKSTER, Mich. – A dangerous chain of events played out Sunday across several cities in Wayne County. Officers from several police departments, including Michigan State Police, are involved in the investigation. The Dodge escaped westbound on Michigan Avenue, where they were pursued by Wayne police officers. Police said Wayne officers were shot at during the pursuit, which was taken over by Michigan State Police once the suspects reached I-94. Police are looking for suspected gunmen who reportedly tried to run Inkster police officers over before a pursuit across Wayne County on Dec. 27, 2020.

Police are searching for an 18-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of two women Friday on Detroit’s east side. Police said the victims -- 21-year-old Shaniya Todd and 18-year-old Shakiya Todd -- were sisters and were killed when a fight turned into a shooting. They said they’re upset and confused, but hopeful that the information police released on the suspect could lead to an arrest. GLWA responds to break on 30-inch water transmission main causing flooding in Detroit
DETROIT – On Saturday, the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) issued a statement on a 30 inch transmission main break. The 30-inch water transmission main is located on Marquette Street just south of Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. Although water service has not been interrupted the issue caused flooding in the area, according to the GLWA. While this incident has not impacted water service, there has been significant flooding in the impacted area, which runs from Marquette Street on the West to Harding Street on East, Jefferson on the North to Freud Street on the South. GLWA will work with residents in the impacted area to address the damage caused by the water main break,” read the statement released by the GLWA.
Dollar Tree employees threatened in Royal Oak Charter Township armed robbery
ROYAL OAK CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are investigating a Dollar Tree store armed robbery that took place on Friday at around 9 p.m. in Royal Oak Charter Township. According to witnesses, a black man wearing a hoodie and face mask was in the store making cash purchases before the robbery. The robber returned after all the customers left. He pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot two employees for money from the register. Police say the robber left the store on foot and no one was injured.
