DETROIT – A man has been charged with first-degree murder after two sisters were killed when a fight turned into a shooting on Detroit’s east side, police said. Shaniya Todd, 21, and Shakiya Todd, 18, were checking on a woman Dec. 18 inside a house on Lantz Street near John R Street, according to authorities. Police said they got into a fight with D’Andre Smith, 18, who they believe is related to the woman living at the house. The fight turned into a shooting, and the sisters were killed, officials said. Smith turned himself in to police and was arraigned Dec. 23 at 36th District Court, police said.

When the wife walked out of the store, the suspect pointed a gun at her and told her to go back inside the store.

DETROIT – Police arrested a man and a woman in Westland after a 16-year-old girl was shot and killed in Detroit, according to officials. Detroit police said the teenager got into an argument with a 22-year-old man around 8:25 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 9100 block of Beaconsfield Street on Detroit’s east side. Immediately afterward, a shot was fired into the home and the 16-year-old girl was fatally injured, according to authorities. Medical officials took the girl to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Officials said the 22-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were arrested around 11 a.m. Monday at a home in the 33000 block of Alberta Avenue in Westland.

DETROIT – Police are responding an allegedly armed man who has barricaded himself inside a home on Concord Street on Detroit’s east side, near Seven Mile Road. Authorities said the 42-year-old man inside the home is having a mental health episode. When police arrived at the home, they said the man was armed and threatened himself and his girlfriend inside the home. “He produced a handgun and made threatening motions towards his girlfriend, who is in the residence,” said Detroit Police Commander Darin Szilagyi. Members of the Detroit Special Response and Crisis Negotiation teams are on the scene trying to resolve the situation peaceful.

DETROIT – Authorities said they found about $1 million worth of marijuana at an illegal grow operation Thursday in Detroit. According to officials, the weed was discovered during a drug bust in the area of Irvington Street and East Seven Mile Road. When a search warrant was executed, the grow operation was found inside a building, and two trailers outside were also filled with marijuana, authorities said.

DETROIT – Two children were injured Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle they were in slammed into another vehicle in Detroit. An SUV was pulling onto E. Warren Avenue from Algonquin Street when it was hit by a black Cadillac Escalade that was traveling more than 80 mph, officials said. The children were in the Escalade, which ran into a tree after striking the SUV. A woman who witnessed the crash described seeing the Escalade speeding before smashing into the other vehicle. All four people who were in the Escalade, including the two young children, were taken to a hospital.

DETROIT – A Comcast worker was shot while standing on the porch of a home Friday in Detroit, police said. Police initially said the man was in his truck, but later said that wasn’t the case. DETROIT – Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect accused in an attempted armed robbery. The suspect is accused of attempting to rob a business owner at 8100 E. Forest on Detroit’s east side on Jan. 10 at 10:10 a.m. The suspect was wearing a black ski mask and was armed with a black handgun.
