SOUTHFIELD, MI – Two bullets went through a childcare center window when gunfire erupted during a child custody exchange Monday morning in Southfield, WXYZ Detroit reports. Southfield Police officers responded around 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, to reports of shots fired at Sapphire Apartments. The incident stemmed from a child custody exchange and dispute between the child’s father and the mother’s boyfriend. Shots were fired as one of the men followed the other in their vehicles. Two of the bullets went through a window of Childtime Day Care.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 54-year-old Fraser man was killed in a Southfield pedestrian crash that happened around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim was crossing 9 Mile Road and Providence Drive when a driver struck him. Police say the driver stayed at the scene of the crash and that alcohol was not a contributing factor. As of 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday 9 Mile Road was closed from Providence Drive to Greenfield Road.

SOUTHFIELD – A man who was seen on camera stealing a $200,000 Bentley from a Southfield business has been arrested. PREVIOUS: Bentley stolen from Southfield business; police search for man caught on camera“The officers set up on a surveillance operation,” said Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren. Police spotted a white Ford Escape -- the vehicle seen on camera that the suspect drove in to the business. The man got in the Escape attempting to make an escape; however, police surrounded him. Body cam footage shows the man getting out of the car and attempting to run away and was stopped by officers.
Man dies after girlfriend calls police to say she stabbed him at Southfield apartment
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 27-year-old Southfield man died overnight after his girlfriend called police to report she had stabbed him during a dispute at an apartment complex, officials said. The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday (March 15) at the Lancaster Hills apartment complex on Lancaster Drive near Telegraph and 12 Mile roads, according to authorities. Police said they received a call from a 22-year-old Southfield woman who said she was involved in a domestic altercation and had stabbed her boyfriend. Authorities arrived, rendered aid and took the man to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival, officials said. The case is being investigated as a domestic homicide, per Southfield officials.
2 pedestrians hit by car on Northwestern Highway in Southfield
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Two people have been rushed to a hospital after being hit by a car on Northwestern Highway near Beck Road in Southfield. ‘This is a heinous crime’ -- 8-year-old Southfield girl fatally shot, brother facing charges
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – An 8-year-old girl who was shot Sunday evening at an apartment in Southfield died from her injuries Wednesday night. Gyasi Arnez Stribling, the victim’s 20-year-old brother, is now facing charges. He’s accused of shooting Bailei Singleton at the 12 North Apartments on 12 Mile Road, between Northwestern Highway and Telegraph Road. The girl had been in critical condition at a hospital after being shot in her head. Police said he allegedly fabricated a story and said Bailei had been shot during an attempted robbery.

SOUTHFIELD, MI – A 48-year-old man is dead after he was shot when someone carjacked his vehicle on Sunday, Dec. 27. The carjacking was reported to Southfield Police around 7:50 p.m. Sunday, WDIV Local 4 reports. Upon arrival, police found the carjacking and gunshot victim, a 48-year-old Southfield man. The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s white 2013 Toyota Tundra pickup, police said.

Southfield fire paramedics declared her dead -- but she was later found alive at a Detroit Funeral home. The Law Office of Geoffrey Fieger filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Southfield on Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The attorney says that’s why his office filed the multi-million dollar lawsuit against the paramedics involved and the city of Southfield. Under federal law, the agency is probably not going to be as responsible as the individual paramedics,” Fieger said.
$50m lawsuit filed against Southfield EMS after woman declared dead, later found alive
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Geoffrey Fieger announced Thursday he was filed a $50 million lawsuit against Southfield EMS Paramedics for declaring 20-year-old Timesha Beauchamp dead. Fieger said the incident left Beauchamp without oxygen for hours and that she was only discovered to still be alive when a funeral home worker opened the body bag to prepare her for embalming. All the telemetry evidence shows that Timesha was alive when EMS declared her dead. As a result of being declared dead, she was left without oxygen for four hours, suffering severe hypoxic brain damage," Fieger said. It is likely that a State complaint will also be filed in the near future.
Police records: Paramedics performed CPR for 30 minutes on Southfield woman declared dead, later found alive
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – New information from police records received through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) showed that Southfield paramedics tried to revive 20-year-old Timesha Beauchamp for 30 minutes but with no luck. Paramedics told the investigating officer they had done CPR on Beauchamp for 30 minutes but that she was deceased. While Southfield police, fire and emergency personnel were all there, family told the officer they believed Beauchamp had a heartbeat. Funeral home staff said they had been advised by emergency personnel that they would continue to see her chest move for another hour. That’s when the funeral home called 911 and Detroit emergency personnel was dispatched.

LANSING (AP) — The state health department wants to hear how opioid problems have affected Michigan residents in an effort to find solutions for each region of the state. Meetings for other areas in Michigan are planned for later this year. “We need to hear how the opioid epidemic has impacted each region of the state so we can develop solutions that resonate with all Michiganders. Local input is critical to us being able to turn the tide on this public health crisis,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, the state’s chief medical executive. The health department and the Michigan Opioids Task Force will share their 2020 strategy, seek feedback and host a question-and-answer session.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A young child was found safe Monday night after being abducted from her family at gunpoint in Southfield. An Amber Alert was issued Monday afternoon after Jaliyah Ford, 1, was allegedly abducted by her father Jeremy Ford around 2 p.m. in a parking lot near West Nile Road. As police began searching for the girl, people who parked in the lot started noticing their vehicles had been damaged by shots fired by the father amid the abduction. A woman who did not want to go on camera had to have her tire replaced after it was punctured from one of the shots fired. Jaliyah Ford’s father is now in police custody after turning himself in on Monday evening, returning his child to police unharmed.

The man and abducted child were traveling in a black Chrysler 300 with the Michigan license plate “EGA6057”. Southfield police Chief Elvin Barren said this is not a case of police brutality. He said hes appalled by allegations that his officers would treat a Black resident differently than a White resident or knowingly use a Taser on a pregnant woman. When you look at the narrative that was suggested: that we knowingly would Tase a pregnant woman -- that is appalling to me, Barren said. It is also alarming to me that it was suggested that this police department would have treated her differently if she was a White woman from an affluent community.
Stalking suspect dies after crashing into pole while fleeing Berkley police, officials say
BERKLEY, Mich. A stalking suspect was killed Monday when he crashed into another vehicle and a pole while trying to escape Berkley police officers, according to authorities. Officers said they were called around 10 p.m. Monday to a home on Ellwood Avenue north of Catalpa Drive for a stalking incident. The impact caused the Cruze to crash into a light pole, according to authorities. Since the crash happened in Southfield, officers from that department are investigating the fatal crash. Berkley police are investigating the alleged stalking incident.

Armed robber targets Oakland Party Store in Southfield; nobody injured
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – An armed robber targeted the Oakland Party Store in Southfield on Jan. 23 around 7:30 p.m., according to authorities. The suspect entered the store at 10 Mile and Evergreen roads and threatened to shoot if the employee didn’t hand over money, police said. The employee dove behind the counter for protection, and the suspect then fled the store, officials said. He fired two shots as he ran, one at the employee and another at the front door, according to officials.
