Man charged in series of Troy home invasions
Troy police say their suspect got into four homes and robbed them recently. D’Mario Darrell Thornton, 40, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon after being arrested Sunday morning and held on a $45,000 bond. Joshua Jones from the Troy Police Department told Local 4 News officers first suspected Thornton after the first home invasion a week ago in the neighborhood near Somerset collection. Immediately detectives went to work and followed Thornton to a Troy neighborhood at Livernois and Big Beaver Saturday night. They say he went to work robbing two homes.

According to authorities, the fight started inside the Taiga Hookah Lounge on Greenfield Road and spilled into the parking lot. Police arrest 2 men who stole bricks while posing as demolition workers
DETROIT – On Friday, police arrested two people for stripping bricks from a city owned building in the 4000 block of Whitney in Detroit. According to Detroit police, on Friday neighbors in the area voiced concern about two men who were pulling down scrap bricks from an abandoned building and contacted the Detroit Land Bank. When police arrived to the area they witnessed the men piling the bricks on four wooden pallets. Police approached and spoke with the men who claimed they were demolition workers and authorized to be there. The men were both arrested while already on probation for the same crime.

Washtenaw County deputies investigate death of 41-year-old man found in burning vehicle
SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of 41-year-old Luis Rivera-Estrada in Superior Township. Deputies said that at about 8 a.m. on Feb. 19, authorities were dispatched to a vehicle on fire near Clark and LeForge roads. Rivera-Estrada was found dead inside after first responders were able to extinguish the fire. No further information was released at this time. Fraser man sentenced to 8-15 years in 2019 fatal assault in St. Clair Shores
ST. CLAIR SHORES – Hatum Akrawi was sentenced Friday to eight to 15 years behind bars for manslaughter after a deadly assault at a St. Clair Shores bar in 2019. Akrawi sat in court and listened as the family of Shawn Kubic tearfully described the pain he caused. Despite the pleas from Kubic’s family, the judge sentenced Akrawi to eight to 15 years, two years shy of the maximum sentence. Akrawi’s attack was described as a sucker punch, but Judge Michael Servitto made it clear that it was much more. Akrawi waited until Kubic was at his most vulnerable inside Kapone’s Bar and hit him with every ounce of strength in his body.

According to authorities, the shooting happened at about 3:15 p.m. in the parking lot of a shopping center near Nine Mile and Greenfield roads. A 27-year-old man, of Taylor, was shot and rushed to a hospital, where he was in critical condition. The suspected gunman, a 21-year-old Oak Park man, was taken into police custody. An accomplice, a 21-year-old Detroit man, also was taken into custody at 8 Mile and Greenfield roads.

DETROIT – Detroit police have released video footage of a man wanted for shooting and injuring a 16-year-old boy on Feb. 13 around 7:20 p.m. in the 15000 block of East Warren in Detroit. According to police, the victim was with another 16-year-old boy at the time when both got into an argument with the shooter. The shooter started to fire shots at both, but only struck the victim. The shooter has been described as an armed man who was wearing white pants with a grey hoodie. Hazel Park detective arraigned on charges of embezzlement, conducting criminal enterprise
HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A former detective with the Hazel Park Police Department faced a judge Thursday on suspicion of stealing money meant to help the department. Sean Boucher, 45, of Warren, is accused of embezzling more than $65,000 in public asset forfeiture funds. It took several years for the case to make it to Thursday’s arraignment. Boucher had been under the investigation of the FBI for a while and their findings suggest there’s a clear breach of public trust. Boucher was given a $50,000 personal bond, but he is required to hand over his passport and can’t leave the state of Michigan.
Hazel Park detective charged with embezzling forfeiture funds, conducting criminal enterprise
HAZEL PARK, Mich. – Multiple felony charges have been filed against a Hazel Park police detective on suspicion of conducting a criminal enterprise and embezzling more than $65,000 in public asset forfeiture funds. “As a member of law enforcement, you pledge your professional life to the service of others, which is grounded in trust with the community in which an officer serves,” said attorney general Dana Nessel. The public asset forfeiture funds are used to support law enforcement operations through training, equipment and other resources. AdAuthorities allege Boucher embezzled about $68,000 for his own personal use over the course of several incidents between 2013 and 2017. Police said Boucher was placed on administrative leave Sept. 11, 2017 by the Hazel Park Police Department and suspended the following day.

New Oakland County human trafficking unit makes arrests in Madison Heights

Two people are in custody and Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald hopes a third suspect will be in custody soon. The bust was the result of several months of work by Madison Heights Police Department, Homeland Security and other organizations. 51-year-old man charged in deadly machete attack in Pontiac, deputies say
PONTIAC, Mich. – A 51-year-old Independence Township man accused of killing a man and injuring another with a machete and steak knife has been charged with first-degree murder, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said Todd Szyszkowski is also charged with assault with intent to murder and armed robbery. A 59-year-old Pontiac man, who authorities said was injured in the attack, fled the scene to a nearby gas station to report the incident. Deputies said the 59-year-old man had severe lacerations to his head but is in stable condition. AdOfficials said a machete and broken steak knife were found, believing to be the weapons used in the attack.
